but then I never get around to making them. Some of these papers were yellow and crisp. They have been tossed out. Now I have Cuties for inspiration! This brings me to ask a question - a friend of mine who is not a patchworker, has asked me to come up with an idea for her on how to make a quilt for her 4 year old grandson. She has a set of patterns of Antique Cars which she will use to embroider the cars. We will embellish further with patchwork and any other suitable embroidery designs that I come across. Do any of you lovely ladies have any ideas of unusual and eye-catching layouts? At this stage we do not have a colour scheme in mind. I also think I saw some designs of "tracks" or sections of road - but am unsure if it was on this site. It is a pity I did not know this morning that she would ask me to help - because I am going through Designs by Cuties looking for the design " I love to cook with wine - sometimes I put it in the food". I have been though over a hundred pages - does anyone know which page it is on? I saw a project made up with design and would love to use it. Had I known of her request I would have kept an eye open for suitable designs to go with her cars. Many thanks to you all. Coral

For the quilt the color choice should be the child's favorite color. An idea for the quilt layout would be to place the quilt blocks in the shape of a car all similar shades of the chosen color each with an embroidery design of a car. Then put the highway underneath and add in other scenic bits.

Thank You. I will bear this in mind. I will have to wait and see what cars she embroiders and I will use some of the above links to embroider designs to add to it. We will then be able to play with the layout. Thanks for your suggestions. Coral

Good luck on the sewing room sorting. I'm TRYING to do the same with my room (do I hear "The Impossible Dream" theme playing in the background? LOL) As to the quilt block layout - more quilt blocks that can ever be stitched in a lifetime can be found at The Quilter's Cache - Marcia Hohn's free quilt patterns:

Hope this helps. *'s

Thanks for the link. You make me smile - many of my ambitions seem like "Impossible Dreams". I suppose the only way is to just knuckle down and do it! Maybe I should spend less time on the computer! :(

I gotta mark this posting b/c I so feel the sentiment and so I can find the hard work of danababes. I wish there were better ways of searching the designs as well as designs by cuties. I LOVE this website. The people are so much fun and free to share information. Thank you cuties. Now, going to click the checkmark so that I can pull up this posting when I am able to find time to learn to quilt.

Hi Coral :)

I gasped when I read that you'd thrown away all those cuttings .. I just cant bring myself to do it, and I love rummaging thru them :)

Not sure I can help with ideas for layouts as I'm a newbie quilter (I am STILL working on my first -- well not really working lol the front is done, but its on hold till I get brave enuf to sandwich all the parts and stitch together - frightened of messing it up lol).

As for the quilt blocks with the roads in DBC, they were done by hightechgrammy. I know she said she was making a quilt so I'm guessing there are 12 blocks, but I only found 11 and I'll post the links to them below. I cant find the cooking with wine design, but I'm sure someone else will find that :) xXx

You're welcome :)

Didnt take me long at all to be honest as I'd already DL'd the designs and because I dont change the filenames from Cuties, I was able to find the designs by their number using google. Yep, I cheated lol :D xXx

Hi good luck with sorting the sewing room, I have been doing the same. Yes there are some section of roads here on the DbyC section. As there is over 300 pages of designs there are a lot to look through. I think this is my personal problem with the DbyC section that I dont download as I see designs I like so it is more difficult to hunt when the sewing bug/idea hits. Happy hunting it will be a diversion from tidying the room

Thanks. I cannot afford any more diversions at this point. It seems as if I would rather do anything than the task at hand. Who wants to tidy up when we can sew? But not even my creative mess is becoming a nightmare.

I'm with you -I can be soooo easily diverted from the task I should be doing. I'm better at sticking with it outside the house than in.
