Most machines come with an embroidery stick. My SE came with a red one. It is only 1-2 GB. The SE wont read a stick with more memory than this. First create file names on your stick with subjects like animals, people, food, applique, wedding, xmas, etc. Then start downloading, hit save, highlight where you want it and it will save in that file. Then you have to unzip the design if it is zipped. If not, it will work right away on your SE. Did you get instruction from the dealer on how to sew designs off the stick?

Your have your answers - I ave (2) of the SE- upgraded to LE, and love them. I like to have both of them running. You have come to a good place to get your answers - stick around and you will be surprised to some of the knowledge our Cuties have.

I see you have the basic information for downloading. Here is something I do. I have the Viking Designer SE along with the 4D software. I like downloading all my designs directly to an external drive so not to clutter up my computer with thousands of designs. I download to a folder for the specific site I download from. For example, Cute, Designs By Cuties etc. Each download folder is a separate site. Once I have them downloaded I go in my software program and pull up the designs and then send the design to their respective folders. For example, animals, bugs, flowers, Christmas etc. If you do not have the design software, I would still download to an external drive. There are drives out there that will hold several GB of memory (thousands of designs). Some sites require you to "unzip" the design file before you move it to your USB. You can then pull them up by folder and view them in your Designer SE by attaching that drive to your machine. Hope I haven't confused you too much. Good luck and welcome to Cute and fabulous land of embroidery!

Congratulations on your new machine. I have a Designer1 (almost 12 years old)and a Designer Ruby (almost 2 months old) and love them both.
I'd recommend downloading .vp3 for your Designer as that contains colour information so you don't have to download colour charts as well, but not every site offers that; in that case choose vip or hus. This site offers both vip and hus.
If you have embroidery software like 4D or 5D Embroidery you could download almost any format, but reformatting is not always totally successful, so preferably choose the Husqvarna formats.

Congratulations on your HUS Viking machine. I have the SE LE (Limited Edition). You will love it! I didn't know how to use a computer when I got mine, it has been a slow learning experence for me. It would be hard for me to explain but you have already gotten a couple of good answers.
Happy Stitching!

Congratulations on your new machine. You must be very excited to start using it.

To download from our great Cute site -- I am guessing at what operating system you have on your computer. These are the instructions for System 7. Other op systems are very similar.
1-click on the picture of the free design on the home page (for example, the W of the Christmas font)
2-another pages opens up. Click on 'Today's Free Design' (on the left of the page.)
3-another page opens up. Under the picture of the design you will see something that says 'Select Format". Click on the down arrow and highlight your format (maybe .HUS??).
4-then click the 'Download' button
5-the 'File Download' box displays. Click the 'save' button
6-the 'Save as' box opens and this is where you tell it where you want to save the file on your computer. For example, to save it onto your Desktop - on the left side of the box you will see various destinations to save it to... click 'Desktop'.
7-if you want to keep the same file name as the digitizer used, then all you have to do is click the 'Save' button. It will be saved to your PC Desktop.
8-To transfer to a normal USB thumb drive, open up your 'My computer' and you will see different drives. C drive is usually your own hard drive. Guessing that your thumb drive is something like Drive F, all you have to do is drag the design (right click and hold) from your desktop and drop it onto the Drive letter.

Hope this isn't as clear as mud. :) PM me if you need more help. In another life I taught computer software classes so am happy to help if I can.

Hmmm, after reading the other responses, maybe I misunderstood what you are looking to do. The above are the basic download and save instructions. To save them into folders to find later, follow some of the other guidelines or PM me for more info. :)

Roseanne, First... WELCOME to Cute!!! 2nd, do you have a program on your computer to load designs into? I have 4D Emb Software and I put all my designs through that onto my hard drive. I have files for each catagory and when saving the design, I use the first letters of the filename as to where I got it. As "C" stands for Cute. Etc. There may be a free storage program out there and another Cutie will be along to share if there is. I know there is many free conversion programs that are mentioned on Cute. I hope I have helped you a little and soon another will be along. Hugs, Judy

Welcome! On the home page, click on the picture of the free design you want and then click to download (first chose your format!) In Designs By Cuties it is even easier. Of course if you pay for a 6 month membership - all the designs are free!
