Anyone with a Brother or Babylock, when I use a 75 needle my Maderia thread shreds and breaks. Does anyone have help for this? I am fine with an 80, at times I need smaller sz. Thank you.

Thanks to all, I wiil try the suggestions. I use Schmetz needles, I think they are the best. I also us their top stitching needles for most projects, however, they are not made in a 75 sz. Hugs and flowers for my friends, angels.

Hello dlmds, I don't have a brother machine, but use the pes format on a bernette by bernina and I always use Schmetz Stick-Nadel Embroidery Needles and I usually use the 75 for everything. I have had no troubles with the needles, but sometimes the thread gets caught on the machine and it pulls tight and of course it breaks on the top. Another time I have a lot of trouble is when I use the cotton made in india. I have stopped using it because of the trouble it gives me. With some of the colour cottons the thickness varies in the same brand so I need to adjust the tension with every colour change, once you know the tensions that the cotton likes with each colour its a lot easier. The thicker ones need less and the thinner ones need more. But the needles I use are an embroidery needle.

I had this problem when using a cheaper rayon thread and solvy stabiliser, one design was FSL on straight (Solvy) stabiliser, the other was a simple RW monogram on a bath robe with cutaway stabiliser underneath and Solvy on top. I solved the problem by decreasing the tension -5 on the FSL -3 on the monogram, i also slowed down the stitch speed. Both suggestions might be worth considering. cheers and good luck with it, Meganne

dlmds, I have a Babylock - however - when my thread shreds or breaks - I see that it is more that I need to change a needle. I don't know how long you have had your thread, either and that may be the case - that it is older or dried out some. Good luck and let us know - what you were able to do - to fix the problem. I also suggest that you look at the bobbin thread each time or see if there is anything stuck in the the bobbin area. I have heard that when it breaks on top - it is something in the bottom - if it breaks from the bottom - it is something on top - I might be wrong - but that is what I heard. Hehehe! A flower for you and 1 for each cutiepie and ruthie, too!

Have you tried a size 75 needle especially for metallic thread? I don't remember the brand, but I have a bunch that are called "Metallica" needles. They are the same size needle as a regular size 75, except it they have a much longer eye. This is so that it won't shred the thread when you sew with "delicate" threads (metallics are so much pickier than rayon or polyester). Sewer's Aid silicone lubricant placed on the needle around the eye can help a lot as well. Good luck!

dlmds, I don't have a Brother/Babylock, but I think everyone's had this problem at sometime. If it's only that brand of thread that gives trouble, you could change threads (keep that brand for the 80). First things first, check that the needle is okay, inserted correctly, not bent or anything like that. Next remove a couple of meters/yards of thread and then try, the thread might just be a bit weak at that spot. It could be that the eye of the 75 needle is a bit small, in which case you can buy needles specially made for machine embroidery, they have a larger eye, which causes less friction on the thread. There is also a silicon product that you could try, I think it's called Sewers Aid? or something like that, hopefully someone else will fill us in on that. Sometimes if you slow your machine down that helps. Hope this helps, hugs and a flower.
