On some pages of this site I get a very large green arrow pointing to a large blue button with 'download' on it. I've never noticed this before - is it something new? Thanks.

It is there to get your attention. It is a clever way of advertising. Thats what advetising is all about. Just ignore it.

Today it was there again and it really looks like you have to click on that to download the freebie because it is so dominant :o(
So always take a second look before click on "download"...

Yes, it's annoying as it is very confusing.

I've seen it the first time under the free letter from the crafting-alpha and I agree with you: It is very easy to take the wrong button(that's rhe newest trick to sell something you not need). It is a advertising like the advert from emblibrary who is there at the moment. Never press a button without any further information ;o)

Thank you for your replies. My main concern was that sometimes it appears directly underneath the download button for some of the freebies or DBC. Would be easy to press the wrong download.

As mops said it doesn't have anything to do with this site but rather an advertising for some product. Just ignore it.

I've noticed and sometimes there's some info with it: it's to download a programme you neither need nor want and has nothing to do with this site.

This is something I have NOT noticed. I will have to pay more attention.
