I have been asked to put a "basque" design and name onto a bag and have no idea what would work.

Any ideas? I would prefer freebies if possible as I am not charging for this and am already providing the fabric etc.
Thanks for all your help!

I saw some camisole's recently that might work? Basque to me means bodice, just like the picture below of the skirt. We called that drop waist bodice.

Thanks for the question. Not so long ago I too looked this up as I've always called the low pile part on towels that name. Noone else knew what I meant, of course! I often like to embroider the name on that part of a towel(easier than on the loopies!) and put the design above or below.
It's possible they meant you to put something like a frame on it, then the name onto that? Like Sonia Showalter has at Stitchery Mall, for one example.

Under the circumstances - I think you need to clarify which they mean - the form-fitting lingerie or the country.

I am afraid I am with Elizabeth - when I did sewing at school a basque was an attachment to a skirt (like a lowered waistband!!)

I loved all the other answers too especially "Fleabag s" - I just got this mental picture!!!!!!!

Anyway I hope it all works out love and blessings Chris

Got a compkete different idea-if I remember in years gone by "basque" was a section of a skirt between waist & hip - fitted with the next section hip down either pleated or gathered?

Correct! I have made skirts like that because it is more comfotable than a waist band.

Just thought - was a basque also not a type of waspie - almost like a kidney belt some 8-10 inches wide to pull in your waist boned to keep you in shape that was very 1950s

ooo I was thinking something different: to enjoy greatly and/or to soak up warmth.

So I went and googled both "basque" and "bask". Turns out my definition goes with "bask" but as far as I can figure they are both pronounced the same? I guess I'm not really helping, since if it were me I'd go and ask my friend to spell which one they meant lol.

Basque or exactly Basque country: a region of southwest France on the border of Spain. I know this region : it's very beautiful !!!
We talk about "red basque" a color used there for house shutters !!!

Other (north east) side of Spain, it's a region partly in France, partly in Spain.

I know the language is similar to Italian... because my GM used to converse with him. ??? That's the extent of my knowledge. hehe

Sue has said it all. How about the underwear on one side of the bag and the Basque country on the other then you are sure to be right

Either sexy underwear or people from a certain region of France and Spain. It could be useful to know which is asked for!
