Can we share designs? Like letters, can we share these things among ourselves? They're free,so is that ok? I need a couple letters that i missed... and would be happy to send any i have.

Thanks!

Im an avid collector of embroidery designs and have almost all of the vermillion and dakota sets, yes I have saved and spent..You would not believe the number of people who have asked me to share my programs..My comment is: I would rather give you the money to buy the program than to share what is not mine to share and go to loose my 3 husqvarna machines and all of my software and 4 computers just for doing what is presumed to be a NICE GESTURE. I cant sew in jail, can you?? In response the nice gesture is to say, I thank you for the oppertunity to spread a little kindness but this time I will pass. Thank you..

Callmemum, thanks so much for asking the question! The short answer is 'no', you can't share. As the others have said, it is the digitizer who owns the designs, and only she/he can give them away, or sell them. You only receive the right to sew the design, not transmit it in any form. This is a question many new embroiderers have, and often nobody tells them, so they make really poor assumptions. It's first 'morally' wrong, because the digitizer is doing this work to make a living, feed her family, pay her bills. She gives free designs for you to use and see how good her digitizing is, so you will want to buy the rest. You wouldn't think of stealing money out of her purse, or writing a check from her bank account, that is so *obviously* wrong; but sharing designs is the same thing, if you think about it, it's stealing from the designer. Legally, all designs are covered by international copyright laws. People have been given heavy fines, and have had their computers & sewing machines confiscated for stealing designs. I don't think a free design is worth jail time. I think you'll find, after sewing out a few of the free designs from this site, that you'll want a membership to get them all! When you think about $30 for 6 months of downloading from all 4 of the sites here, Cute, Redwork, Alphabets and now *Lace* that's only pennies per design! $5 per month, you'd spend that on one large cappucino! And you can get them any time you want, don't have to wait for freebies, and maybe can actually get the dishes done or run the sweeper (as if!). Or, like me, find another excuse for being here, like this wonderful community we've developed. Welcome to you, please continue to post and do share your project pics with us. And thanks again, *so very* much, for asking instead of assuming. Flowers to all! Marji

Thanks, everybody, for your great answers, especially remembering to give credit to the digitizer. Sometimes in projects we see a design we'd love to use on something, so great to know where somebody got it, so we can buy it, too. I was running out of room in the answer, Chatty Cathy today. Doing the Dance of Joy that this was a *question*!!! Marji

Hey Guys thanx for your input i am new to embroideryand i asked this question in a round about way when i made a comment after getting an alphabet letter i was led to beleive that it was ok to share if the design was free (given away)from a site as anyone can join or download it as long as you do not sell the embroidered item or the design. I am glad you guys cleared that up for me as i love my machine worked extra shifts to get it and certainly do not want to loose it. Take care all and happy sewing.

Callmemum, When I bought my little embroidery machine the thing that I heard the most was that it is not okay to share designs. The sewing Center that I buy from is so good at telling people over and over until you have it down in your mind that you do not own the design but rather just the right to use it for your projects. Ruthie explains it very well. The other thing that I learned right off when I started was that if you sell any of the items you make you should always give credit to the digtizer for the designs you use; that way someone may decide to use that same digitizers designs and have you do the work. It is a win win situation.

callmemum, welcome to the *cute* site. Thanks very much for asking this question and not just assuming that it's okay to share, you're one of the smart ones. Whether the design is bought or given as a freebie, we only receive the right to embroider that design, the actual design still belongs to the digitiser. And the digitiser is the one who has put so much time, thought and effort into each design. Just enjoy stitching all your lovely *Cute* designs, and vote for what others want, and I'll vote too, just let us know what you want. Flowers to you all - just because it's a beautiful day.

the price of membership is so reasonable and then you can get all the designs

Many would like to do that but I don't think it is worth the risk. Maybe later some of the fonts will be repeated. We can hope. However, it doesn't look too expensive to just buy the ones we miss.

No, sorry it's not ok. They were freely given by the site owner who also owns the copyright. It is illegle to transmit designs without the express permission of the owner. Read the terms and conditions below. It's good that you asked, though. Most people aren't aware of the fact. ;)

Glad I'm not the only one making typing errors!

We all do it. I know sometimes after I submit a comment and read it I wonder how I ever wrote it. I think everyone understands that we write quickly and don't really think about. We just thank you for all of your comments and experience.

On every single site I have ever been on on the Internet there is a terms of use agreement, usually they ask you if you understand it and then you click to continue...if you read it...it tells you your responsibility to the designer, artist, digitizer or whatever..it goes without saying..you have to always read the terms of use or terms of download before clicking the little button that says do you agree to these terms? how can you agree if you havent read it??
Just a thought..
