If you are not already a member of SE Yahoo group you should join. We have been talking a lot about that issue and it does seem to be a driver issue. Also one of the gals has a web site that has all kinds of info and tips on how to do various things with your machine and software. (especially installing it) www.sewmuch4retirement.com

do you have to use the hardware from viking or can you use something else - that you might already have?

First thing to do is check to make sure that your software in the machine and the computer are both current. If one has been upgraded but not that other, that can cause a problem. Sometime a driver on your computer will get overwritten and you may have to reload your software. But after checking to make sure both your machine and computer software are up to date, check with your service technician or alternately contact Husqvarna directly as they are usually quite helpful in pinpointing your problems (reloading software is a last resort as it can be a real pain!). Hope this helps!
