Thought I'd share this with you. I sometimes find that, especially the thinner threads, tends to form a knot before it goes through the top of machine, and it breaks when it gets to bottom. I cut a little piece of styrofoam and thread the cotton through it just before the first entry place. It works like a bom, and also works for metal threads.

Thank you for bringing this back to the top. I keep having issues with my thread breaking and I think this will fix it. I have tried the nets on my thread but it doesn't seem to work - thread still travels fast and knots up - so between my thread stand and this tip I just might be able to embroider successfully now.

That was an excellent tip, I must try that. yesterday I try to embroidered some teebags, and for one were you normaly need 45 min. I spend almost 2 houres. The thread was breaking every few minutes..it was a bad expirience because I have to make 65 teebag´s ...You can imagine

I've used Velco with much success for knotting threads and for keeping the tension stable since I embroider on a Futura ce250. Just tape the edges of a long thin strip of "teeth sided" velcro crosswise on the machine top. Lay the thread on top of it and then stick a small velcro strip over the thread. Run the thread through the machine's tension guide and thread normally. I hope you will be as pleased with the results as I was.

This looks like a super idea but am I being really stupid????? How do you connect the styrofoam to the machine?

mops by mops 13 Oct 2010

You don't. You thread your yarn through it with an ordinary sewing needle and the styro foam stays in place, pulled to the first obstruction it meets.

Great tip, but I have another question. How do you keep threads in a box from tangling up? The spool don't have tiny slits in them any more where you can put the thread when not in use. I really don't want to put slits in the spools because of tangling. Any suggestions.

I use Hugos amazing tape on spools that don't have the snap bottom. Great stuff!!

knitty46 by knitty46 13 Oct 2010

What is Hugos and where can I get it? I'm brain dead.

knitty46 by knitty46 13 Oct 2010

Thank you for the name. I found it online.

queenofhearts by queenofhearts 18 Oct 2010

another solution is a pack of pencil top erasers from the dollar store (40 for a $1) They fit perfectly into the top of my small spools. I lay the thread across the top and push the eraser in to hold the thread. Or tiny hair bands from the dollar store wrap around your spools for any size spool.

lbrow by lbrow 28 May 2012

I buy a pack of ponytail hair elastics . A 100 or more tiny to large little and round for about $2. put this around the spool and it keeps thread from unraveling. they are also great to use on bobbins./Lillian

sewfrenzie by sewfrenzie 28 May 2012

I got a bag of 100 tiny pony tail elastics for $1 at the dollar store. Great for keeping threads from unraveling on bobbins and spools.

'n Boer maak 'n plan. Slim meisie die Marietta. Good idea I will remember it. I had the same problem for more than two years. I could not use a certain thread... it breaks every few seconds. Then I start using Anton Robison's threads .. not breaks at all. But the i decided, there must be a something wrong some where.. I did a google search and found that if I use the Klasse needles with that thread, I won't have a problem and whallo.. no breaks any more..
