I have found that plastic zippers are spendy. What I have been doing is going to the Dollar store. There I purchase the large mesh laundry bags--there are 3 in a package and the zippers are 11 inches long. I take out the zippers and use them for any project that requires a zipper 11 inches or under, as they can be cut off or sewn over. If I want a different color I color them with a Permanent ink Sharpie.

I have also cut off the top of the bags hemmed them attached one close to my machines to use for scraps and or thread. The bags can be taken apart then sewn together to make larger sizes of mesh fabric for ones use. Hugs.

We have a lot of Thrift or Op shops here, any clothing they get donated that is not suitable to sell to wear, is stripped of zips and buttons, the fabric then gets sold to Inveraity for rags for mechanics etc, they then usually sell the buttons and zips in the shops at a very cheap price, I have had some bargains, I recently got 30 15-30cms plastic tooth zips all pressed flat for $2.50, you cant go past that for your ITH projects. They often have some sensational buttons too at cheap prices. Ruth

In the UK we have Pound Shops which are worth looking at. I have recently bought pure cotton aprons, tablecloths with crochet edging and childrens sweatshirts all of which have been great canvases for embroidery projects.

I bought a puppy leash from here. Cut it down and ended up with a plastic clasp, D rings a metal key ring and of course a length of cord. Not bad for a pound.

here is a mail order site with some good prices. You can get 20 zippers for only $3.00. Also www.newarkdress.com has the same offer. It is their sister site. You can also request a free catalog from both sites. I have ordered from both and they have great cust service.

Thank you will check this out. My problem is never knowing what I will need which makes it hard to know what to order ahead of time. H&*

I am very fortunate as we have a place called "SAS" here in Phoenix Arizona and they sell all different sizes, colors, etc. of zippers for only a quarter each! Used many of them last year when helping a friend raise money to do the Breast Cancer 3 Day - the low cost helped in making things cheaper so she could raise more money. Not sure if there are more stores out there like this or not - this is like a warehouse store with tons of notions in boxes and fabrics that are just stacked up - you dig through to find what you want.

Fabulous tips to save money here in the states. Hope others have a similar option. Don't often frequent dollar stores b/c of problems with merchandise in the past. Will look again!

I have purchased from yard sales, however, I can usually only find metal ones. I like the plastic ones. Thank you. H&*
