Can quilting thread be used for embroidery? The tread is 100% egyptian cotton. Thank you

My machine is picky about the thread I roideryuse. It only likes embroidery thread & there are some brands of embroidery thread it doesn't like. Personally ,when the manual says use embroidery thread that's what I am going to use. These machines are very expensive & repairs can b costly so I try to not take chances *

I have used ordinary cotton in my machine Janome 350e & it got very messy inside, also very fluffy round the needle area causing bitsy bits on my work - my dealer did not recommend it as it is not good for the machine - however if your machine is an embroider/sewing machine I would imagine it to be okay
Also bear in mind the density of the stitching as embroidery thread is thicker & gives better finish

I have been told not to use cotton for my embroidery machine. They said it has to much fuzz from the thread, and could make a mess thru your machine. H&*

I answered you on the duplicate post so brought my answer tot his one. I don't know if what I am thinking is a possibility or not

I would worry that the thread being 100% cotton that when laundered the thread might shrink and make the design pucker. I would definitely test it on scrap fabric and the wash and dry it to see if it is ok.

Not sure about using the quilting thread. But I am sure someone will come along and give you the answer you seek. Metro thread is a great thread for embroidery and the price is great. I have over 100 spools and not had any real problems with it. Good luck and let us know how you come out. Sara

I think it depends on how you want to look your embroiderywork. As Teri (simplyrosi) says, some peolple use cotton thread for doileys but when you prefer a shiney (spelling???) look than you need polyester thread. You can take a look on the link and see threads for a reasonable price.

Great question. I know people have used serger thread but that is a HUGE no-no, per several dealers because of the mess it leaves inside the machine. I bet quilting thread would be just fine. I'd like to do some of the doily lace with a cotton thread to give that handmade look.

I'd like to see what other cuties post. I've wondered the same thing myself. :-)

I can't see why not (if it is made for machine quilting) but most embroidery threads a rayon or polyester spun to give a sheen on the finished work. I suspect they are also made so that they break more easily!
