HAVE YOU HAD THIS PROBLEM? Can it be repaired?

It is 10 years old so I don't blame it for beeing tired... But I'm wondering what to do. Let my technically interested husband take it apart... Get it professionally repaired, but it IS old and that would cost a lot here in Sweden... Find a secondhand unit and hope it's better.... Try to buy a new one - if they even exist now.... Start saving for a new maschine and quit sewing in the meantime (not an opition really).
Any tips highly appreciated. I'm only grateful it's not x-mas.
Thank you! / Peggy

I bought the designer 1 in 2000 and it was a lemon. i had no support from any dealers/husqvarna except a chap in perthw hich is two hours away. aside from poor embroidery part it is still the best machine i have had over 44 years of sewing (that ages me doesn't it. it beats my other machines in free motion quilting and sewing so i have kept it
recently i looked at buying a new machine (i also have the old disc system) and paid $900 (AU) to have it converted to USB and it is fabulous.
now to the original question - somoneone told me that wher the embroidery unit attaches sometimes gets dirty or fluff in it and it malfunctions in this way. maybe a service and/or a clean would help. i had never thought to clean in that area. e

I would not hesitate and bring it to a Husqvarne dealer to look at it. Hopefully it should run as good as new after that.
Good luck

It looks like a software problem to me. I have a Designer 1 that's over 10 yrs old and had the same sort of problems. I reinstalled the software a fortnight ago - could still download it from the Husqvarna site - and noticed I had never installed the latest. But my Designer has floppy disks, don't know how you would do it with yours. It would be nice if you could solve the problem this way. Try it before you start on costly repairs.

I had a look at the Husq site. The latest update for your machine is on http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/gl... - download it and update your machine - it might do the trick.

Let your Viking repairman look at it. I don't think a technically interested husband can really find out what it is..unless he's trained to work on sewing machines. It has a limited warrenty but I'd sure check & see what's covered as I know it's a lot longer than 10 yrs. I may be wrong, but I don't think Viking is going to be making their machines there anymore, sadly. I am hearing troubles with ALL brands machines lately, so if you can get your old one back & running good, keep it if you are happy with it!

I have had a different problem than yours but I believe the same causes were in both cases. When they repaired it, they replaced the controller arm at the factory and it might also be the computer controls are not working. See a Viking repair person and get an estimate. Once you know what costs you are looking at the decision becomes more simple. The DII has been replaced by the Topaz 20 & 30. It does come with a deeper arm so you get a wider hoop. Is it possible to trade the machine in, buy a trade in or an advertised used machine. Good luck. I hope things work out for you.
