wendy I use prefolded diapers purchased at wal-mart. they r very absorbant. I usually embroider a design & put a band on the bottom with a band up the back to cover the back of the embroidery. Go to our projects there are quite a lot of posted burps that you can look at to get an idea on how to do them. *

I use a hand towel and embroider a baby pattern and folks just love them.
Good luck.

I usually buy flannel the snuggle flannel from Joann's when they have it on sale. I usually make them 2 ft long and the cut the material in half so if it is 44 wide the burp cloth would be 22"w by 24"l. I usually serge it after I embroider it. I also use the same material and make a receiving blanket. I usually try to make it in a square. So, If the material is 44" w, I make it 44" long also. The kids love the bigger receiving blankets. I serge the ends, You could also put in a corner hood on one side and embroider this.

Wendy I use a guest towel - which is a nice size for a burp towel - Then just stitch your embroidery disigns on it.
NO NEED TO DO ANY SEAMS

Was also going to suggest FiveStarFonts, as Mops has already said. Good luck with your venture.

Wendy - there's a free how-to tutorial at FiveStarFonts, here's the link. You can of course add any design you like, initials or something nice like the free bear carinwatkins mentioned.

Wendy - begin by buying some good quality nappies.
Today at cuteembroidery is a very nice bear to use.
You can use any babydesign that you've got.
Hope you will cope.

pre-folded diapers at Target are a lot better than Walmart due to the weave being tighter and a lot easier to embroider on. i only use them. about 16.00 a dozen but worth it.
