These are just a few of the Christmas gift bags I make every year. We have a large family and went throught so much Christmas wrapping paper over the years!!! So, I began 5 years ago, buying the prettiest Christmas fabric I could find that was on sale (including remenents)! Then I began making gift bags - with a casing at the top with cloth ribbon. I would make these bags in all sorts of sizes...my stash of gift bags are well over 100, from very small to huge bags. Now, we still wrap a few presents with paper - but, mostly we use our gift bags. Each gift, I loosely wrap in tissue paper and then place in a bag, then add a name tag (with a hole punched through it) onto the ribbon. We even recycle our name tags!!! This has saved our family money and a huge amount of time as it is so easy to "wrap" our gifts, plus, we "going green"! My daughter, Katie, makes her own and even gives them away in groups of 12 as gifts to friends!

I started to do this last year. I used a 'xmas' embroidery on a piece of plain poplin. Pieced colours red, yellow, green or puple in a pleasing combination to make carry bags.

Great idea!! I've wrapped pressies for quilting friends in pretty Christmas fabric but never made the drawstring bags for gifts. My children had Christmas bags from white net curtains with red drawstrings - I still have them, but I like the idea of giving pressies to friends and adults in gift bags. Everyone can use drawstring bags and monogram fonts on the plainer fabrics would make them so special. Thanks for the towards a greener Christmas and useful wrapping.

Such a cute idea. I have bought gift bags so my DH and sons could wrap my presents. But I will be picking up fabric on sale from now on.
