you have been given all the answeres so thought i would add just a little more help, remove the bobbin case and take a good look at it feel all over it and check to see if there are any rough parts on it. sometimes the needle hits the plastic particularly after a dense nest has been created plus thread can actually cut though the plastic case at the side of it and the thread catches and this is actualy what it sounds like so here is the answer. go to you local store and purchase one of the nail care sticks that has the four different parts to it a hard file a smoother finer one a buffer and a polisher they are not expensive to purchase Try not to use the courser section of it unless the burr or snage is very deep so smooth it down a little then change to teh finer section and smooth again til you cannot feel any roughness You can check this by haveing some nylon hose or some silk underwear pass over it if it snags then gently smooth down again now buff and then finally polish the area.
While you are at it check the foot plate for roughness the same way as again if a needle hits it, it will score the metal and the thread can catch in it. smooth down as above. add a small amount of thin oil to the underside of the bobbin case and now try again .
hopefully this will have cured the problem for you but the next course of action is to purchase a new bobbin case and keep it on stand by that way if you are in the middle of a project you can swop it over and continue whilst trying to repair the one that is damaged. try E bay as they are somtimes much cheaper.I do hope this will help you. annie in the UK

740080Hi I have a 9700 only had a few months. I think I've had simalar problems. The bobbinthread is getting caught on the thread at the start of the bobbin the one you cut when winding. Does it happen when you are starting to run out of bobbin thread. I felt that my bobbin was not winding correctly. I now hold the bobbin thread straight above the bobbin when winding but don't pull it up just hold it and let it wind for a while before cutting the thread.
And when I threaded the bobbin I was doing it with the cover off I'm now doing it with the lid closed and the thread ou the corner. So far its working.
17448Elizabeth, I have had this happen with my Janome 10000. The first time there was a nick in the actual bobbin holder and I had to replace that. About $25.00 if I remember correctly. The second time it was the same thing but my dealer fixed it with using an emery board to smooth it over. It was just a small burr on it. Run your finger over the bobbin case to make sure it is all smooth as it should be

(Example if you are stitching on stretchy fabric make sure your using the fusible or sticky back stabilizer. if not this can make a jumbled up mess on the bottom of fabric and knot up around the bobbin) This is what happened to me awhile back. I thought I had really messed up. It cost me the price of a shirt I was doing for a friend.

10191Bringing this back up for possibly more help. Elizabeth, have you checked to see if you somehow got a burr on the bobbin case? If the needle nicked the plastic part, there could be a little tiny burr causing this. Hugs, Marji
33451I'm not familiar with Janomes but Loma has suggested everything to do that I would suggest. Always change needle out first, clean, clean & clean. I also change threads in bobbin & top sometimes it turns out to be my machine doesn't like that particular brand of thread. Welcome to the Cute Site arsenio. *4U

I have a Janome 9700. When that happens it could be several things. 1)you may have a burr on the needle so change the needle 2)there could be lint around or under the bobbin housing, so take that out and clean all the dust away frome it. 3) rethread the machine... Maybe do all the above. Make sure the thread is hooked properly in the bobbin housing also. Just some ideas.
