G'morn family, I have two quilter plastic mats. They are getting cuts in them. Does anyone know the best way to fix and clean these up? Thank you.

This is what I found on the internet.
Heat – It is best to store self-healing cutting mats flat, not near heating or direct sunlight and not too cold as they may become brittle. The mats are heat sensitive. They will warp from heat and improper storage - keep them flat. Well I learned that the hard way: put a freshly filled teapot on the corner of a mat, which has never been the same since.
Cleaning – Use warm water and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleansers. A nylon net scrubber can be used to loosen any stubborn dirt. I always use a lint roller to remove lint and tiny pieces of fabric - not just on the mat.

The cut marks can be seen but only cutting in the same place again and again gives wider marks. But usually they last for years.

Thank you Mops, I will do what you wrote. I learned the hard way also that they need to be stored flat. Will the lint roller take the fabric fuzz out of the cuts? H&*.

U have quite a few answers here dlmds. Mine is self healing & so far has no cuts in it. I have no idea how to repair one but notice one of the QTs says their is a tool so perhaps that will help u. *

try going over the cuts with a fine grit sandpaper. May be able to smooth it out that way

This maybe helpful, as they do not seem to be cut very deep. I will try this on a piece of the mat. H&*.

To get the fuzz and lint off, brush them with those soft PLASTIC scour pads that you use for dishes.

Thank you, I think the best place to get these will be the "Dollar Store". H&*.

Mine is self healing, and its funny when it heals with fuzz in it from the material and I have to scrape it out! Hahaha! **

That is part of my problem, all the fuzz left in the cuts from the fabric. H&*.

I'm trying to remember what the tool is called, but it scraps the mat to remove the dents. You'll find it at Jo-Ann's or Hancock's next to the cutting blades. Sorry I can't be more specific.

I can ask the next time I go to Joann's. Thanks. H&*

There are self-healing mats, and others. If it does not say self-healing, my guess is that the cuts will remain. They were probably made using a heat process, but I have no idea of how to heat them up to repair them. They might give off noxious fumes if heated, so be careful, whatever you do.

Thank you, however, I would not want to heat it. H&*.

Heating them makes the mats curl up , I once put a teacup on top of my mat, so I know.

I don't know but I do know the prices of everything has gone up when I was in JoAnn's & Hancock the other day. Mines has a few also but I don't use it much ;D *2U

This price thing I do not understand. So many people out of work and companies are laying off more all the time. Yet it seem gov. keeps raising taxes and companies keep raising prices. It is the raises in gro. prices that upset me the most, most other things we have a choice whether to purchase or not. H&*.

I thought so too, until I got some cuts on mines. However; they claim the newer ones today are better ;D *2U

I believe the green ones are self-healing. This one is the white quilters board. I have 3 boards now, would not like to try to purchase another. H&*.

Mine is not green but it is a self healing mat. Just check to see what the label says.
