Now that we know to change needles more often (LOL!) what type (not brand) of needles do people use? Only the ones marked embroidery?

I use embroidery needles when I embroidery & universal for regular sewing. I do use an universal for embroidery if it's new. Doesn't usually matter unless it's a dense design.

I mostly use Embroidery needles 11/75, especially for FSL. I will only use a 14/90 for heavier weight material and will go to a 16/110 or larger for embroidering on denim. I use Metallic needles for embroidering metallic thread.

I've always believed that manufacturers would not waste their time and money on research and development if they didn't need to, so they have obviously had very good reason for making all the different dedicated needles.
Did that come out right???
Hugs n roses, Meganne

I also use embroidery needles, and will still go for the sharps, in a case of urgency. (Elna dealer told me this works.)

Although I change my needles often (every couple of projects)or according to the fabric being embroidered..It is this very thing that caused my machine to lock up on me and had to take it to the shop..Cost 150.00..Simply because I used too small a needle..hmmm one lesson well learned...My manual contradicts what the educators out there say..My manual said to use only embroidery needles while the sewing experts say no! No wonder we are left in a state of confusion..the more I read the more confusing it gets..lol..That costly repair made me realize I needed to learn how to properly maintain my own machine..After being home from the shop only a week the machine locked up again...well a little oil on the correct places and voilla, it was fixed and has been running like a dream ever since...knock on wood! I use schmetz and organ needles when I can find them...and with a lesson well learned all types and sizes according to the fabric...*4u

I mostly use the Machine Embroidery needles 75, I will go to a 90 if a very dense design. I use the 75 for all of my FSL. I have also used the top stitch needles of the same sizes, as they have large eyes in the needles like the embroidery needles. H&*
