In addition to some other issues I have wit the program and support- the real kicker was this: I had computer issues with it when I first got it. The USB dongle that came with it didn't talk wwll with my computer, They had me send the dongle and sent me a printer port dongle. Well since then we have bought a new computer and they don't come with printer ports anymore. When I contacted them about getting my original dongle back- they told me I had to purchase it from them. The cost was over $50. Since I had owned it in the first place (and also money is tight) - I really resent having to buy it back. I am wondering if there is another digitizing program out there that I will like and that will offer better costumer support? Sorry for the long question...

I agree that Generations customer support is lacking. But I also agree with what hollyp has said. I only use Generations I guess I am a bit biased because that is what I learned to digitize on, but I really love it and you do get the updates for free.

Hi
Sorry to hear of your troubles. I had a serial port dongle when I first bought gen too. I paid the 50.00 and got the upgrades dongle. Glad I did because in 9 years I have never had to pay for an update. There is no other company that does that. My 50.00 was well spent. I own almost all the home digitizing products, Artista, PE Design, Janome, masterworks, Viking 4D, Floriani, and Embird. I still go back to Gen. 8-)

It would be. Much cheaper to get the upgraded dongle and update the software ( software update is free) and learn Gen than to purchase even Embird.

I teach Gen in live seminars and webinars on the internet. Check out my site and I am sure you will find webinar recordings available to members that will help get you started. There is also a Gen forum just for me to support folks learning.

I am starting a new FREE digitizing series on Thursday, Nov 18, info is on the site. It will be a 4wee series. From this is the icon to creating redwork, appliqué, filled embroidery and theory behind why our designs do what they do.

Hope this helps.

I suppose you could sell it, but if you don't have a usb dongle, and nobody makes computers with printer ports any more, your potential customers would be a tad limited. You'd have to find somebody using an old computer that wanted digitizing software, kind of unlikely, I think. And could the new user get the usb dongle for $50? Digitizing programs have come so far in 5 years, I don't know what you could sell it for, or if it would work on the newer operating systems. Yikes, that's a lot of $$ to just put it in a drawer. I do hope you get it sorted, and your DH doesn't have a fit. Best of luck to you! Hugs, Marji

Well, I understand the need for protection for these programs, but gee whiz, if you originally sent the dongle and got a printer port dongle, seems like you could now send that one back and get the regular usb dongle. Consumer support in some places is dreadfully lacking. I have Janome Digitizer Pro, and my dealer fully supports it. But I have heard a lot of good things about Embird, as Meganne said. Also, Larry Pike at Artistic Thread Works has written a number of tutorials for it, and recommends it highly. I'd sure think about it, it's not that expensive and there seems to be a big knowledge base out there for it. Hugs, Marji

You can't go passed Embird! Please do a search for Embird, Software, Programs, or Digitising above the tabs on the left side of this page.

There have been many posts written on this subject and I'm sorry I don't have time just now to repeat all I have written in the past.
It's Sunday, DH is home and I really must go and get him some lunch before he drops of starvation. LOL!!!
hugs n roses,
Meganne
PS, Embird has no dongle. You can load it on one pc and one Laptop but only use one at a time and you are trusted to do this. It does have licence keys as its only protection against software theft.
