I hate hooping towels and have already ruined one square hoop I have the Janome 11000 and am worried about the magnets but when I went to the sewing centre to buy one..both the clerk and myself found it to be less than strong in holding anything let alone a thick fabric...i.e. thick velvety towel...I would really appreciate knowing if you have one do you like it

I have the hoop. Doesn't hold thick towels. I do lots of towels, BUT I also hoop my tearaway, then baste in the hoop my towel. MUCH better for your hoop! And those hoops are expensive! My machine has a basting stitch (fix) that will just go around the design area. You can also use a spray baste if you want. BUT on towels, sometimes that sorta pulls the loops when you take it off, as does the sticky stabalizer. Hope this helps. And YES, all ads CAN be wrong! :-)

Dear cricket,
I have a Magna hoop, but it's only good for fabrics that aren't terribly thick. You can't use it for a thick towel because the magnets that hold it in place can't get close enough to each other. I use mine for napkins, baby clothes, sometimes tee shirts. The magnet, by the way, will NOT harm your machine. Try something like Hydrostick stabilizer; it works great on towels! ...Barb

I learned a long time ago to believe none of what I see but to find someone who can review the item, etc. I bought something back in the early 90's. The TV ad could have wiped you off your feet. The product turned out to be lie ;D *2U FIESTA

For those who wanted information on the Press and Wash sticky water soluble stabilizer, here is a link to a PDF from Designs by SiCK. SiCK sells this stuff for $23 USD a roll, and it was developed by the same man who developed stabilizers for Walter Floriani. They also have a sticky tear-away, and all kinds of other stabilizers on the SiCK site, as well as a US and separate Canadian order form, Canada orders will be shipped from Canada so no tarriffs, etc. Just FYI, in case "all y'all" didn't know. Well, I am glad to see this and wish I had seen it when I traded my 10001 for my 11000SE ad I bought the magna hoop to go with it.....Sounds like I need to try to take it back for and exchange of some kind...I have not tried to use it yet. I will be looking for the water soluble sticky...is there a brand name for it?

I use a hoop it all, it is large enough to support my towels, it use stickey stablizer to hold everything, place a topper and then i baste stitch around it. roll the towel and place it on top of the hoop, so it just rides on top of the hoop while it is going back and forth.
I don't trust any magnets with my machine!!

I bought the magna hoop when ATG first started to advertise them . Oh I was so excited! But alas , they are NOT strong enought to rely on for you heavy towels that can shift and pull free. The magnets are pretty strong and you can purchas spares to help out now. But the magnet thing is a good point. They assure you it wont hurt. But they wont fix your machine in case Ya know what happens . The plastic frames are pretty flimsy too if you ask me . Save you money...But please . Try and find the water soluable sticky. I hated trying to get those little pieces out of my design.

I don't hoop towels... I baste-stitch them down and that seems to work for me.. I just hoop the tear-away the run a stitch around where the design will go...

I don't have one, Cricket, but I seem to remember a response about the magna hoop where someone said it definitely would not hold thick towels. Magnets come in all strengths, I have one on an extension rod that will pick up screwdrivers and wrenches, it's that strong. But I would never never get it anywhere near my computer or sewing machine! Just my opinion, but I think if the magnets were strong enough to actually hold stuff, they could ruin a computerized machine. I'll be interested to see what people who actually have them have to say. And yes, the ads most certainly can be wrong, hee hee hee. Ol' Vince on TV convinced someone I know to purchace ShamWow, hee hee hee. I've used hers, and I'm going to save my money. The only thing they do work on is stuff spilled on a rug, that part was true, hee hee hee. Magna hoop is a great idea in theory, maybe not so much in practice. Why don't you get some sticky stabilizer, hoop that, stick your towels to it without hooping the towel, run a basting stitch and go from there. I think that's how a lot of people do it. Good luck with this!! Hugs, Marji
