For over 45years I have washed my fridge out with bi-carb-soda disolved in water then rinced with clean water then sprinkled PURE Vanilla Essence on clean cloth & wiped ALL fridge surfaces with it. if u don't like the brown marks left by too much vanilla turn cloth over (or wring out tight)& wipe over marks, do not wash off. If smell is still bad put a little vanilla essence in a cup & leave in Fridge or cut a vanilla Bean in half & leave in fridge (this can get too strong for some people. ALSO use vinilla essence cloth to wipe all other containers & bags still in fridge. Allways bag & box everything in Fridge. Also put wide mouth glass bowels of water in every room & the water will take up the smell empty & wash every 12 hrs or less if the water smells. If you are going to give your friends coffee brew it just before they come. Best of luck.

Buy some Debbie Meyer green bags and put the fresh stuff in them next time. They do work and they will contain the smells. We used to grow broccoli and I know how it stinks. If you turn down the temp on your A/C for a few hours that will help and turn on your ceiling fans or portable fans so the air moves and the A/C will move more air. There are also some fiber pads you can put inside your vents that contain deodorizer and the air will carry the smell around the house. There are several different fragrances to choose from. I know Lowes have them.

We had a horrible odor in our fridge in our new house that just about knocked my brother in law over when he opened up the refrigerator. We took the toilet chemical they use in travel trailers / motorhomes and put some in an aluminum pan in the fridge and it took care of it. I don't remember if it was just a day that we left it in there or if it took a little longer. Good Luck!

Welcome to the Cute community. I use coal to freshen the fridge. If you want to get smells out of the house, put a little Ammonia in a saucer and put in every room. Leave it there for a day and all the smells will be gone. Good luck.

Yuck! My husband would just die if I put cat litter in the frig.lol

dailylaundry by dailylaundry 11 Aug 2009

Sorry, I don't mean sprinkle it around...I meant, put it in a pan and let it sit overnight. It is clean and should not come into contract with the food. It will absorb the odors.

Sounds mad but it does work

Orange peels, onions, and lemon peel all these work if you burn it in the fireplace. Not all together, just one of a kind. Love Marie

P.s.: If your house have a smell burn coffe powder in a frying-pan and go to all the places in the house that have the smell (with the Frying-pan).

Try using some charcoal briquets, it worked for me once. My father left for 3 months cleaned and turned off his fridge. When I went over he had not cleaned it out completely and some meat was left in the back and rotted, we live in California and the summers get very hot. So, I cleaned out the fridge and put a plate full of charcoal briquets, I had read it absorbs oders and it worked. Just put some on a plate and put it in your fridge. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Had sucess in coolers with balled up newsprint and ground coffee. If it's cool enough at night in your town, perhaps you can air out the house then. (We've been having 90-100 degree temperatures, and I'd guess yours are equally high or higher.
Smell each product in the fridge (butter, milk, etc.) as those may have absorbed the odor. It may have absorbed into the curtains and other fabrics, also, so wash everything.
Sorry, but aside from calling a company to help (one of those that cleans after a fire), I don't know what else to do.
Good luck!

Thanks. Last night I opened up the house and let all of the celling fans run. It helped but it isn't where I want it to be for company.

Wash your fridge out with water (about 1 pint) into which you have added PURE Vanilla Essence.
Then get a packet of Baking soda (bi-carbonate of soda) cut the top off the packet and place the packet in the fridge any odour not removed by the Vanilla will be absorbed by the BCS.

I always keep BCS in my fridge and some people pay much more for it when it is sold as "Fridge Deodorisor"

Hi Meg, this is a wonderful deodorant in the fridge isn't it? I don't even dilute the vanilla, but soak a damp Chux in a basin with about 1/2 bottle of pure vanilla. Wring it out and wipe directly all over the fridge interior - Works like a charm every time!

kezza2sew by kezza2sew 11 Aug 2009

I agree to all of this Meg, very good indeed

nonmusicmom by nonmusicmom 11 Aug 2009

Thanks I will add this to the list.Already tried baking soda no help

bokkieborduur by bokkieborduur 12 Aug 2009

I agree with Meg vanilla will help, even rinse and let stand the empty bottles that you want to re-use like staysoft, or soap bottles for a while with vanilla in it. Love Marie

Try this:

Don’t forget to clean the drip tray beneath the refrigerator, and use caution during removal. The drip tray might be dry, but more than likely it contains dirty water. Remove the grill beneath the doors, carefully pull out the drip pan, and dump the contents. Deodorize the drip pan by soaking it in baking soda and water after cleaning.
