I have a walking foot on my 25yr old Pfaff sewing machine. u have to engage the walker in the down position for it to work. It is to stop the top material from stretching (being pushed dalong)while sewing. Very handy for stretch material and quilting as everything stays lined up as u put it. Enjoy it.

Didn't your dealer offer any instructions? Good answers already given! I THINK most people use it while sewing several layers, as in quilting, as it keep them from feeding unevenly. A friend read on a Viking site where some of the gals are using the walking foot AND the face place that has just the little hole (remember it's on there for if you start to zigzag, it WILL break the needle or worse!) as it gave a better embroidery. I have not tried that, just passing along the suggestion.

Thank you all for your answers...what a laugh...I just had the claw hanging not doing anything and that is why I couldn't figure out what it was doing there...LOL. Now I got it on right...
I went to Joanne's to purchase and all I got was a walking foot in a little box with no instructions. The girl at the desk had no idea what to do with it.
Thanks so much for all your help!

Not a problem. Glad to be able to help you. That is just an extra stabilizer to make sure it goes straight even if it hits a pin or something.;)

Try Youtube.... I can't access the site from work, or I'd send you some links to sewing videos. I'm positive they have tutorials on there. :-)

Place the fork of the foot OVER the needle clamp screw.
