I made this with flannel and polo fleece and put them together alternating polo and flannel on each square, on each side. I made them up separate and then put them together and then put the border around. I was going to tack the front to the back but the polo had stretched a little and thought I would do that after it was washed. I will do the next one a little differently and tack down as I go will be better while it is in smaller pieces so it doesnt stretch with the weight of the blanket. But these are the lessions you learn on the way.

Sandra, this is a great job especially for your first attempt. I love the colours, and from the photo it doesn't look like the polar fleece has stretched much at all. I bet Mackenzie thinks it is great!!! Cheers Claire

yes I had seen that it had got dirty using it in the car and draging it around so this is the better way and she is still warm.

Nice quilt, Sandra. Stretchy material must be difficult to use, but your quilt looks perfect.

Thank you Mops, yes it can be a bit tricky but you just have to pat it into shape and try not to stretch it while you are sewing it. My stretch came when I held it up to look at it.

Thank you, I thought they went well together. The flannel has cats meow all over it. If you click on the picture you can see it up closer.

so you made your "rag "Quilt Sandra. Great. Have you thought of before stitching the squares together in rows etc. - to sew across on the diagonal all layers together - to hold them in place and may just stop the stretching. I havn't done any using polo fleece, so this may just stop the stretching.

Yes thats what I am going to do next time and I did think of it later. I pined it in the corners to tack it together but thats when I discovered the drop in the polo. It was cheap. I was also going to hoop up and put a RW design in the squares to hold it but because of the stretch it wasnt sitting in the right place and it would have looked worse. So I left it to run free until it is washed and then I will take another look at it then. I have given it to Mackenzie already. It wont take long for the wash. Also after I had finished the quilt, I was walking past the sewing shop at Booval and saw a rag quilt lying accross the edge of a table already made and then I could see one made in the real and it had the sewing accross to keep it down and it had been sewn the same way I was going to do it in the first place but I changed my mind thinking that maybe I was wrong, but turns out I would have been right after all. oh well it was the first one I have made and I didnt read the instructions that I had been given a couple of years ago. I thought of it. The next one is for a boy so wont put fancy on it just the diagonal stitch and try again to get it right.lol.

Thank you, my mistake when doing it was I didnt sew it down as I went and the fleece was a cheap grade and it stretched. That wont happen again.

I also forgot to say that I made this for Mackenzie to take to day care to keep her warm on the early winter mornings at 6.30am three days a week and for when she is watching TV or in the car. This is also to stop her draging her good embroidered quilt around. lol.
