I have a Designer SE and have only used the Viking USB emb stick to store designs - Has anyone used other USB sticks with great results? The Viking sticks are so expensive.

I too have the SE, and use different flash drives, but I do not store my designs on them. I have my designs on my PC, and saved to the external drive. I agree that Viking wants an exhorbantant price for their memory stick, and I only use mine if I have something to take into the store or a class there. You got several good answers, so - go or it!

I download and save the designs on CDs and also put them on the USB sticks....my computer is downstairs and my SE is upstairs.

I have a Designer SE and I used several sticks. Only one of them didn't work, so you have to try.
I made a lot of maps, but with many designs it takes a long time for loading. I rather use the USB-cable; it works faster and you can see the designs better on the PC-screen than on the Designer screen

I bought a Designer too and I use other USB sticks, namely KINGSTON ones. They work very well (they are indicated by Viking dealers) but one must use only the ones with 1GB of memory.

Hi there.
We have quite a few Emb Machines in different formats. Our Janome 350E that we use the Micro Cruzer 512MB. You must put it in the machines drive first to format it! But we have great results. It holds plenty of jef. sew files and was reccomended by our Machine dealer!Only cost $20.00 Canadian

I have both an SE and a Diamond. I have used other sticks with both. I WOULD suggest you not get one any larger than 2G. I down load to either the stick or my computer, then take it to my machine. Since I have so many files, I usually DL to the computer in order to store it in the proper format either on my external hard drive and/or a CD. Then just use the stick to take things to the machine. I do NOT like to sit & wait for the machine to load all the files on the stick...so don't store them all there. I have a PNY stick, find others will work. I THINK there's an article on the Viking site telling you what brand sticks will work..either there or on sewmuch4retirement. Give one a try, it won't hurt the machine & if it won't read it, it won't read it!

I agree with everything Gerryb says - I have the Designer 1 SE Limited Edition and I do the same as he does - no trouble at all. As he says don't use one any larger than a 2gb. Love Chris

I'm a "she" but that's ok! Real name's Geraldine, but since I didn't make the money on it Flip Wilson did...if you're old enough to know who he was...I just stick with Gerry! :-)

Dealer told me you could only use the Viking sticks - so I decided not to upgrade -, but friend of mine uses other sticks as well. I would try it out if I were you, you can always use it as a backup if it won't work.

I have a new Hus diamond and was told I could only use the usb stick from viking also, I have not tried another stick, but I download from the computer onto a usb stick and work it off the computer, seems to work pretty good that way. I was a little upset when I found out what their new stick cost,

for the Brother-machine you can also use other usb-sticks, so I suppose you can also use other usb-sticks, that are less expensive.

I have a Designer 1 which uses a USB, and I have used other USB sticks with no problems. The only difference I've seen is the little switch on the Viking USB stick to write-protect your files - which is just an annoyance to me anyway, when the switch is accidently moved.

As long as the stick is properly formatted, there should be no problems using it, in my opinion.
