I know that you are supposed to use the same thread in the bobbin as in the top, but don't know about what to with with variegated thread.

I like the way by using both, top and bottom, I couldn't tell the back from the front. Now having said that, it could be really nice having a plain colour on the flip side.
One thing to watch for is thickness of the variegated thread, mine was not the standard embroidery ... (heavens the word has disappeared), thickness, gauge, oh you know what i mean!, so my project turned out thicker and more rigid than it should have.
Yes i'm having a brain overload! LOL!

lol, Don't feel lonely. I lose the words all too often. It just shows that we are all human. Sometimes I'm way too human. lol Thanks for your reply. *4u

Yup! That's it! Weight. no wonder I forgot it, somehow doesn't really seem appropriate for thread, does it? I mean knitting and crochet yarns go by Ply, don't they????
So how does a little spool of thread measure 40 wt? 40 ounces, 40 grams, 40 pounds, 40 kilograms, see what i mean?
I've been sewing over 55 years and don't know, so, can anyone answer how this way of measuring thread thickness came about???

The only time I used varigated in FSL, it didn't turn out varigated looking. It all just kind of blended together and made a different shade of pink.

That is what I was afraid of by using the same on top and bottom. I'm going to do it the way the experts say though. *4u

Donna, you alway use the same thread in the bobbin as you do on top for any FSL design.

I definitely wouldn't have thought that to be the way to do it.

I've only did one variegated FSL and used the same thread in bobbin

Thanks, I was going to do this without asking, but I was going to use the lighter of the colors in the variegated thread. I thought the varigation would clash with itself. lol

I don't know how but mine matched up.
