Jo, thank you - but I didn't get lost in my room - no one sent me there, either. Hehehe!

I am not much of an organizer - that is why I posted these pictures - so that you all could help me - lol

This is how my thread is organized. I purchase them at Office Depot. They have wheels and both are the same height. The can be rolled in and out from under my table that is 6ft long and runs perpendicular to my sewing machines to hold large quilts.

how can I suggest anything? Your space is so tidy and everything you need for the minute is on hand. I'm hopeless at keeping everything tidy but I do know where most things are and recently I have been putting like materials together in baskets. Jo

It's difficult for me to answer in english but the first simple thing I would do : put all the thread you have near your machine (and which take a lot of place) with the others, sorted by colours, and the second thing would be to hang horizontally the stabilizer rolls on the wall in front on the machine, near the window, as we sometime do in kitchen for special papers rolls (aƮuminum...) either on this kind of holder we find in kitchen store, or the best would be to ask your husband (or do yourself) to hang a wood or metal rod (as long as you need or several small ones)as for curtains and put the rolls throught the rod (to slip ?)(see the photo of my ribbons). My own threads stand oblique in drawers.
That's the first simple I would do but... xoxo shirlene and hope to hear you soon ! See photos.

wow, shirlene what a collection you have here, so much colors of thread and extra materials. I almost envy you
for this room is great. My room is very smal and I have all kinds of materials but not only for embroidery, also for painting ang engraving on glas.Unfortunally my pc is upstairs and my room downstairs, not in the same room as you have. But it keeps me feet racing between one room to the other, lot of going up and down the stairs, hehe. But I thinks this room must already works for you! it looks very organized, so I don't have any suggestions but thanks for sharing!

Wow Shirlene you surely have a lovely space, I will just move the computer desk closer to the sewing table so that you can enjoy sewing and been on cute at the same time. After all you have to hands... one for typing and one for changing threads lol

Adelmarie - I have thought of the - but really prefer it - when I have to get up and go back to the machine from the PC - because if I don't then - I would never move - just roll around - lol - I ned some exercise - after all. Hehehe!

Your room looks great way better than mine not only do I have embroidery but quilting as well. I have a table on every wall thats three and a bin on the short wall. There are things under both tables like bins and bins. Now I have to try to find space for the laptop. Its only 8x8 room. Keep trying to convince dd that she should switch rooms but she keeps telling me no. I really like your space and the big hoop. Sorry I didnt help much but I enjoyed seeing your play area.LOL Lisa

Oh Lisa, thank you - I would love to see yours, too! I have had my own room in the past - shared with my DH in a much smaller space, too! But we decided that we spend so much time in this room - that we needed the extra space and it is almost like two rooms - with an area in the middle for all the extra stuff - lol. Thanks for viewing!

It looks fine to me. You have A LOT of thread. It appears that you have it organized to fit you space. You could make use of that closet with shelves and clear plastic bins.

Oh thank you Carolyn - I do have a complete wall of closets full of shelves and clear plastic bins, too! But they do not look organized enough to take pictures of them - that is why the doors are shut. LOL!

LOL I can't figure out how to get it all n order n my rm Shirlener. I have such a small space. I try to have small things with lots of pkts that I can fill. One assett I guess is I can reach just about everything from one position because it is so small. I'm going to get rid of my curtain at the window & make a couple of hanging bags that will fit on curtain rod with lots of pkts I'll have them on ea. side of window so I lose no light but window is right behind machine & that way I'll have even more accessable items near me. good luck *4U

Thanks Lillianb - I really appreciate your thoughts and idea's - I might have to see if I can do something like that as well - I hate to get up and move to get anything and as you might be able to see - I have my work area - at the back of my machine - so I do have to get up and move there - to iron or cut out things. Hanging bins at the window would work for that, I believe. Thanks! *4U2

I have my stablizers in a plastic contain and towels for making the bibs for my grandaughter. The plastic containers help me to organize. I have tread racks on the wall for my thread.

Barb, dear - where do you put your plastic contaniers - I have mine under my cabinet - I would like to organize that some. I am not found of the racks on the wall for my thread - that would mean I would have to walk around my sewing cabinet and get them - too much work - lol. Thanks!

clawton by clawton 23 Aug 2008

Use shelves to put the plasic bins on or set up shelves in that closet with shelves.

Blackie, I have to say - it doesn't always look this good - but it was a day - that I had visitors over - so it was cleaned up a bit - my desk is always a mess and I can't help that - I don't know how to get that organized at all. And you can't see behind those closet doors either. Hehehe! Thanks for looking and I would love to see yours - when you feel you can share it.

You seem pretty organized. I've just been doing a lot of FSL, a 1000m cone is gone in a jiffy! So now I want 5000m ones. No wonder you have such a collection of thread with all the FSL you're doing! Nice to have a peek in your room!

Martine, thank you - I haven't always had that much thread - until recently - I used to only have the three bins on top of that side table - now I have the three lower bins and all that is on top & next to the machine. Hehehe! I can't wait to view your FSL, that is wonderful. *4U

Shirlene sweetie, it looks like you have enough ideas to fill a whole house - pity you don't have that much space for your embroidery, haha?

I'm not making any suggestions - if you saw what my *playroom* looks like at the moment, you'd understand why! My excuse is that I only have enough energy to mess the place up, haha!!!

Love, hugs and flowers for you all. Hope the magic broom helps keep your room clean and tidy!

I have really gotten into bins and containers. If you have them all same width and depth they work great. Also, do you have shelving in the closets? That could help lots. You know those metal strips and then braces so you can adjust the shelves. I really like those stacked containers (where your threads are in), if you had a few of those side by side. Hardwood/laminet/tile floors are great too for sewing areas. How about an island type desk with drawers on back and side(s)? Please show us what you end up with.

shirlener88 by shirlener88 23 Aug 2008

OH Joanie, thank you - I have those closets filed with bigger drawer bins - can't use the shelving in this aparmtent - even if I took it down - lol. More than likely will not be doing a whole lot here - but wanted to feel it was my space and that I was using it well. When I get my own place with my own room again - I want to be able to know what to do - with what I have - lol. Thanks a bunch - I love your idea's.

Shirlene, Would love to help but my room is so small that I can only fit my machines, my computer is 3 rooms away, oh how I would love your space. My only suggestion is to sort your embroidery thread drawers into colours I know I did this and it does make lofe easier

shirlener88 by shirlener88 22 Aug 2008

Colma, I have just received those three big drawers full of thread - Teri and I bought them - so I haven't figured out how to stack them in the drawers or if I need another little drawer bin - but I have had the top three bins sorted into colors of kinds - for a long while and I love that, too! Thank you. I always enjoy hearing about what others have and do with their rooms. Hehehe!

Honestly I don't see anything wrong with this room. You are running a lot larger operation than me. All I can do is tell you what my room looks like. I have kitchen cabinets all around, top and bottom with countertops. I have 2 work stations for the computers and machines. The floor is hardwood so I can roll anywhere. Everything is in the drawers and cabinets to keep it handy for me.

You know - when I first was married - I have a kitchen in the basement of our home - that was actually another apartment - but we stopped renting it out - when the kids got bigger and couldn't share a room - I loved using it as my sewing room - because I had everything in the cabinets and drawers and I had counter tops for cutting and the floor for that matter - it worked for me - I loved it - I don't live in that house - I live in an apartment and we use our master bedroom for our combined PC room and my embroidery - we also have one wall with video's in shelves - but I didn't show that side of the room - it is my husbands and he is a bit messy - lol - thanks!

Wow, I am impressed with all the goodies!!! What type of Embroidery Machine do you have? Only suggestion I have is that you deserve a larger computer desk!!!!

Laura, thank you - I have an Ellegante2 it is a Babylock - I would love a larger PC desk and that is on my wish list, too! If I get what I want - I might trade spots for my desk and my embroidery machine and that would put some of that stuff closer to the closet with all some of my supplies, too! Thank you!

Pretty overwhelming to try and figure out how to make better use of space. How about the back of a door to hang an organizer for either stabilizer or other notions. Or how about a peg board on the wall for hoops and notions? That is my goal.

shirlener88 by shirlener88 22 Aug 2008

Looks like you have a blank wall next to the window. You could put up some shelves just deep enough (use 1x4's) for all your cone threads and stabilizers. Jan

shirlener88 by shirlener88 22 Aug 2008

Well, Jan that is a great idea - but I have all these drawers full of them and I really don't want to get up and go around this little nook that holds them now - to get to them - that is very assesible - but I do like the idea of putting something there. Thanks!

by shirlener88 22 Aug 2008

I would like to give you a tour - but if I spend to much time telling you what you see - you will not see that I need help - lol! Now the drawers are usually closed where the new bunch of threads are located - I opened them to show you. And behind the two sets of double closet doors are where I have all my other stuff that I dont want you to see as it isn't very well organized at all.

I might add - that between my space and my husbands - if an area - that we have boxes - that we haven't unpacked yet from our move from NC to UT - Hehehe! One day - I will figure out where to put it all out of the boxes, too!

salsabil by salsabil 23 Aug 2008

My mother in law always said what you never unpacked in years you don't need it!

So much thread, cool! I've just started with 120 1000m spools from Madeira and feel like a queen

shirlener88 by shirlener88 23 Aug 2008

Well Salsabil, you mother was right, too! As for your thread - that is what I had for many years, until recently - now I buy the 5000m spools. Hehehe! *4U
