This quilt is the reason for my not being so chatty on Cute for the last while. I had to finish it for this past Saturday for our quilt group's Christmas in July party. It was the result of a challenge issued to the group to use some butterfly fabric in any way we wished to. I had made the background quilt in another class and decided to use it as the backdrop for my garden of daisies and butterfly (or 'flutterbies' as my children used to cal them). The daisies, leaves and butterflies are ironed on with double-sided applique paper and then raw edge machine appliqued. The stems were made with a bias binding maker, attached with double-sided applique paper and then machine stitched into place. The quilt is heavily quilted by machine. It was great fun to make.

Shirley, how awesome! And what was the quilt group's comments? Think I'd have to keep it! Tell me what everyone does with the wall hangings like this? In my old mind, a quilt is still something to sleep under! And yes, we do sleep under quilts over 40 yrs. old.

I do have bed quilts as well, but not as old as 40 years. This will hang on a wall in place of a painting. Sometimes, I drape the smaller quilts over the back of the couch and we use them as knee rugs when it's cold. *4U

Love how the daisies stand out on the darker background making a garden scene for the quilt. It reminds me of the beautiful wild flowers in our grass verges during springtime.
