My sewing club I am in monthly has a community project this month [Monday]. We are doing little dresses to be distributed oversea's by organizations such as Dr.'s Without Borders and a couple other International Groups that provide medical care and give what is donated. Besides sewing dresses which still need elastic in the neckline to finish [there are 14 of them] I have 9 more cut for any woman that wants to sit and just get started sewing. We are hoping for a good turn out of ladies and our goal is 100 dresses. I am making the 3T and size 6 but making them longer than the paper said to do. I think any range of girl could wear them. I added some lace to a few, some trim I had, they requested wider dress bottoms so when the child squats there is more room than the standard width of fabric, the reason for added front panels. I also included a bodice for one that was on a blouse my mom had and I cut off to recycle since I thought it was pretty. We are hoping for fabric donations also. I've used fabrics from my own stash. They will be packed off and delivered to a lady in charge of the end product.

Well, girls, we have a new date to work on these again--March 6. I hope all the ladies show up again. I have 6 dresses cut for now but will get more done and ready to sew. I am taking my serger this time and will pass to another person for regular machine sewing like hems and inserting elastic neck. There is a particular fabric that was donated and was yds and yds so I will search my smaller totes for what I can cut a lot of bodices and sleeves to have on hand as that fabric is a gray and white stripe so many colors and prints will go with that. I love doing these.

What a great program and nice donations. Isn’t it such a rewarding feeling knowing you helped clothe someone needy. Keep up the great work.

WOW! I can't think of a better way to use fabric and time! And you accomplished all this with so much going on in your life. Proud of you! Hugs, Suzanna

Nursing homes and children going without pull to my heart. These little dress were so easy to make. I have an old/new fabric stash I am not doing much with as I age and still buy more so I put to use this way. Lap blankets for the nursing home or wheelchair caddies and fidget mats. Some of the elder's in nursing homes are just left there and no family or if so, they don't visit. I used to work as a Ward Clerk for a time. It is so sad. My goal is to lift them up, keep them warm or dressed. I will be making more little dresses. I ask our leader about shorts for the boys and she said no, was told they won't wear them...I could make them myself if I wanted to. What an answer. Thank you Kim....I am uplifted to see all the charity that goes on at this site.
