Hello Cuties, I made this bag yesterday hoping it would be large enough to carry a good size quilt in. However, I can only put 2 children quilts in so it may just end up being a craft bag for me. I had watched a YouTube video With Not your mama's quilt store. She doesn’t give measurements except for the 5 inch cut out for your hands to hold the dowels. I guessed and I probably came out close to her size. This will just become a craft bag unless I use it for a purse-lol- hubby says too big for a purse-😉 I think I will get him to cut another inch off my dowels. They are 16 inch now and if he cuts an inch off of each it will give me another 2 inches to get inside. Speaking of inside, the video says to piece your 5 inch squares you cut out and make an inside pocket. Well I did but I wanted mine to zip. So I pieced the yellow 3 1/2 inch squares I cut to box my corners for the top of zipper. I ended up sewing my zipper to unzip from right to left which seems backwards to me as I’m right handed. I got a phone call while sewing and blame on that-lol- I enclosed my zipper top kinda like you do sausage pillowcase so I couldn’t figure while on phone if I was inserting it right. Well it still works and you can see my piecing but all the fabric was used so no scraps. My 3 1/2 inch corner squares of the print I’ll use for begging and ending sewing. So a no waste project. I cut this bag two 22 1/2 wide x 21inch tall as that was my piece of yellow I had. Cut 2 of lining and 2 of outer fabric if anyone wants to know. I also used pellon Flex-Foam FF77 sew in stabilizer to make it stand up. I think that’s all. Very easy especially if you watch video. I made this in one afternoon. Have a great day my friends❤️Toogie

Beautiful bag, why, oh why do we always find something wrong with what we sew. No one would have noticed the different thread only you. LOL To me it is just perfect and if you gave it to me I would be so thrilled to receive such a lovely gift.

I decided to watch a movie yesterday so it still has the gray thread.-lol- and this morning I decided to make an even larger tote for quilts and my wool pressing mat. Thanks

Great work my friend. I've made 4 bags over the weekend, but with no wooden dowelling. Mine are just shopping bags to grocery shopping with. I love your extra 'bits' to make this such a useful bag. Love Chris

Thank you Alice, I thought of my mom and her crochet. She had an upholstery bag for her yarns, that was made on a wooden stand, that folded up so you could carry or put away. Hubby just cut another inch off my dowel handles and I think I like it better so now they are each 15 inches. It opens it up to about 6 inches for me to put stuff inside.

Great Bag love your fabric choice. I have found the web site, "Not Your Mama's Quilt Store" useful too. This is a nice size for shopping, or a purse when it is necessary take a phone, book, makeup kit, flashlight, tape measure, billfold, coin purse, pattern....and on and on.

You sound like me when my husband said it's too big for a purse, I thought 'you don't know what all we can put in a bag'.-lol-I had all items on hand. The outer fabric I bought when I was finding fabric $1. a yard before Covid and things got so high. Likewise my sister found me the Flex Firm $1. yard, the regular bolt price was $6.97 yd. The yellow fabric I think came from my aunt when she stopped sewing. The dowels we got when my husband was making the Stocking Trees. I usually can come in my sewing room and find something I can work on without going to buy since we are 30 minutes away from a Walmart and 50 min away from a JoAnns or Hobby Lobby.

We gals think alike, just read Pam's post above-lol-Thanks Suzanna I am toying with the idea of starting a bigger one but I didn't want to use up all my Flex-Firm stabilizer. I might need it for another purse soon-lol

Thank you Betsey . I am thinking I may take out my stitching around the opening to change thread color. I hope I can get it back as good if I do. I didn’t realize until I was sewing the top casing I should have changed thread.😩

What a classy bag! It may not be large enough for what you wanted, but it is a beautiful and completed project that can be used in so many ways.
