Hi Cuties! When I was young I used to hear ‘old’ people talk about their ‘rotten’ skin because they would have a tear or break in their skin. I always thought what do they mean? Well now I know. This morning while just making our bed I peeled my skin back on the top of my hand. Oh goodness that burned ( and still does) and bled. I put pressure against it when I covered the skin back over and called for hubby to come put a bandage. I told him I was just tucking the quilt between the footboard and the mattress and the top of my hand was toward the quilt, so how it peeled back I sure don’t know. Now because my skin is thin and ‘rotten’ does that mean I’m old? 😉😩😂

Old is just a state of mind. You are not old!

My husband fell a couple of months ago. Peele back an area of skin about 3" by "4. Took him to a "doc in the box" and they told him to put petroleum jelly on it...wrong! Don't do that! The next day he had an appt. with his wound care doctor. He moved the skin around and stitched it back together wherever he could. Then put some antibiotic med and put a dressing on it. It healed very fast.

It's still red around it, but I'm putting triple antibiotic ointment on it, at night. It's hard to have anything on it during the day and people say leave it open, if you can. It doesn't hurt so much now, but I sure don't want to bump it-lol- Besides the tape was making me itch, so no dressing. I laid the skin back over as soon as it peeled, just have a gap line where skin is draining and healing. It is better, for sure.

My father died when he was 98 1/2 yrs old and I used to say: 'Old? My father is old, not me'. That was 11 yrs ago.
I loved to see my father play the organ or paint a portrait; my grandmothers knit, and my grandpa repair fishing nets. Hands that told a story.
But when I see my own hands I don't see the story but the ugliness and have to remind myself they still are 'capable' whatever they look like.
And no, I am not old! :)

You are so right about hands telling a story. Most of us have them and all are so different. One of my sister in laws hands looked so rugged. She worked raking hay , with a machine and tractor while her husband baled the hay. She could plant a garden, work on just about anything and wasn’t afraid of hard work or getting messed up. She wasn’t the foo-foo, bling, bling type but she always looked neat. It’s funny how you remember people’s hands and nails too.

No, you are not old, just your skin is aging. But oh my! your hand must still be uncomfortable. My handsome hubby bought me a T shirt last year that says I am vintage; he bought a T that says he is a classic (has an old car on it). So, embroider a shirt with whichever word you prefer and keep on stitching.

I have a tee shirt that says ‘Blessed are the Quilters, for they shall be called Piecemakers’. Notice the spelling isn’t Peacemakers.

I had a shirt like that too! I ended up giving it to my Op Shop as I don't wear T-shirts. Love Chris

The other one said "A clean house is the sign of a broken sewing machine" he he he!!!

Oh Toogie, you are not old. Sorry about your hand injury. Sometimes I just do a bump and yes it turns black and blue. Skin tears sometimes happen too. We may be older, but we are still active! Hugs, Suzanna

There is a tv ad where a lady says, "Age is just a number and mine is unlisted". I love the question, "How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?".

Most people say that because they still feel young. I have always felt older than I am🤷‍♀️

Ha ha ha! I'd call you a 'classic' Toogie. I feel for you and your hand, I always wince when I read about somebody scraping or grazing their skin. It's like somebody scraping their nails on the old blackboards, it just goes right through me to my toes.

You are fortunate having low blood pressure, mine is still high and I'm trying my best to get it down. The doctor told me to de-stress for these next 44 days until we leave, otherwise I'm going to have to increase the dosage, (sad face here now) Love to you and yours Chris

My bp was always low until the last year or so. I am on a low doseage of bp meds. I hope this upcoming long vacation of yours improves your bp. Relax and let Jewels deal with the home front.

We were with another couple friends our age yesterday and we’re talking about getting older is awful. It’s the aches, pains etc that suck.

AND the times your kids decide that they must do everything for you..... UG!!

HI
My late MIL was 102 and she use to refer to the other people in the home as poor old dears, so no you are not old. Just remember old is only a word. Ann is so right "Vintage" is way, way better.

Toogie you are not old, just sensitive skin. 😊
Well I am old and maybe that is why I end up with bruised looks by just scratching.

Any steroid use? Doctors use it for lots of ailments... Long term issues include "thin skin" that tears and bleeds. Don't ask me how I know.

I understand what you mean Toogie - but, believe me, you are not old!!!! Don't let anyone tell you differently either! My Bonus Father (father-in-law) is 93 and I don't consider him old! Bunches of hugs to you! Laura

NO! But you're not thin-skinned either, so I don't understand this problem you had. Maybe I'm just in denial. So sorry.

Trouble is I am thin skinned. I told my kids my hands look so wrinkly put them under me when I die , not together on top!
