UPDATE WITH PHOTOS below

Hello Cuties!
My traveling niece just had another remodel. She turned her screened in patio into a closed in dining room. So she went shopping and found an oak table with 8 chairs. I offered to make her a Christmas runner and sent her pictures of fabrics I had in my stash. She chose this piece with Santa, deer, tree and snowmen.
The runner can be reversible. I used the fabric with the rows going across the width for one side. On the other side I made Stars.
I don’t know why but lately I have been making it hard on myself. I think it’s because I am always being interrupted or distracted. Here is what I mean.
I knew Eraine liked the Santa with deer and tree so I fussy cut a square for the center of my stars. I made all my blocks, then decided to sash around them with the rows of snowmen from the fabric. All went well and I was so proud of my mitered corners matching up. (See photo
Then I thought it needed a row of Santa borders because I only had them in the center square. If I had really been thinking, I would have realized by adding another border all around, it would just be too wide. I didn’t ‘think’ until after I sewed, mitered and edge finished it. 😳🙄😩
So after making perfectly mitered borders ( yea!) I had to rip it all out (boo-hoo) and go back to just the first snowmen border only.
I have been working on this 3 days! I should have finished this easily if I had use all of my brain and not just ‘half a brain’. The idea forms in my head and I make as I go. Somewhere along the way I guess I quit thinking.🙄 The finished width with just Snowmen border is 17 inches. If I had left the Santa border on as in the 3rd picture, I am embarrassed to admit it was 25 inches! Her table is 41 wide. It did look good but just too wide to look good on the table.
1- fabric Eraine chose
2- first border mitered
3- with both borders on ( just look at those mitered corners!-lol
4- back to just one border and completely quilted and binding on
5 -reverse side with whole fabric
I think she will like it and the fact that both sides can be used, she still gets her Santa.
Have a good day or night!❤️Toogie

UPDATE-I just got back from my nieces house. I loved her oak table & chairs and she loved the runner! Here are some photos. Thank

She would laugh if she heard you say that. She’s actually about two years older than me. Her husband is my husband’s nephew. My husband’s oldest brother is 93 and her husband is his son.

Hi Toogie, I absolutely LOVE the Santa fabric and that table is gorgeous. I love the fact that it can be rolled on its feet.
Perfect mitred borders by the way. Eraine is one very lucky girl, you do such beautiful work, well done. Now go have a rest. Love Chris

I’m glad you noticed the rollers. They are porcelain. The table was made in the early 1900’s and a family had just brought it into the shop the day before. Eraine said it was just meant to be. Thanks Chris I’m going to take that advice.

Toogie, Your table runner is gorgeous! I believe your niece will love it! She is very lucky to have you! It seems like we all have times when our brain doesn't work the way we want it to. I've had times when I had to cut off part of a bed quilt simply because I got carried away and made it too large. I don't talk about that one! You did a fantastic job.

This is the double mitered border, I had to remove the Santa outer border but kept the SC now man mitered inner border. Forgot to add the wide corner picture with my main post. As you can see, my pins are in and I’m already quilting, when I realized this width was not going to work!
Thankfully I knew if I took the outer border off, I could still keep my candy cane edge showing on the Snowman border after binding. Yea!

Thank you. I just covered my quilting machine and picked up my mess. I think I’ll quit for a while. I’m making too many mistakes and having to correct. Isn’t there a song with a line in it that says, ‘Mamma said there’d be days like this’?-lol

I can see why at first it ended up too big for the table. I like the look better. Love the Fabric. Perfect for the borders and fuzzy cutting. You of course made the best of it. Sorry you had to remove your perfect mitered corners.😊

I didn’t loose the inner border corners !-lol-I liked it with the black Santa border too. It seemed more dramatic. I am glad Eraine didn’t see it, she might not like how the runner ended up, as well, but I shouldn’t say that as she is easy to please.
…I have some blue Christmas fabrics, that I could make into more runners, but I just picked everything up.

So you have been making so many quilts, you just thought your would turn this runner into another quilt. I'm sorry you ended making a lot more work for yourself, but it is truly beautiful. Now would you mind teaching me how to do such beautiful mitered corners. I can't seem to do that no matter how hard a I try.

Beautiful runner your niece will love it, we often think with only half a brain from time to time because we are so busy and you are always busy.

I guess I don’t like to be idle but my motor ( brain) is starting to miss. I need a tune up, lol, so I think I’ll take a break. Maybe I stayed away from sewing/Embroidery/quilting too long during back and shingle problems. I’m always thinking of the next project. Thanks Marian, I guess we all can relate because if you sew eventually you’re bound to have days like this.
