Hello Cuties, we have been having a lot of rainfall from Tropical storm Nicholas. My granddaughter Lanie leaves before daylight to go to her workplace. On the way this morning about 5 she was following a van. They had just crossed over a small bridge and the road curved. In the curve they hit high water. It was over the hood on her car! She phoned her mom 20 miles away to come get her. She said her car was starting to float. My daughter told her to call the sheriff department and get out of the car. The sheriff department said they couldn’t send a deputy out but they called the state police.

Mom had told Lanie to get out of the car. She couldn’t open the door against the water pressure so had to go out her door window. The water then went inside the car, but Lanie got out safely. She said she saw the state trooper drove to water edge, never got out of car, then turned around and left.
Later she saw a department of transportation truck come and put road blockage signs up on that edge of water. Then she said a detective picked her up from the other side and brought her to the police station where Marsha ( her mom) picked her up. She said that side which was the north side had Road Closed barricades up. The south side which was the side she came from didn’t until after she hit the water.
Lanie later went to the wrecker yard, where her car was eventually towed, to get her personal things out of car. The wrecker guy told her that her car would be totaled out. Water was still standing inside the floor of the car and her things were floating in the water.
I am so thankful she is alright, but I can’t help but feel bad for her. She has been working steady and this summer was able to pay down on her first home. She and I had just talked about her car. She owed $4,000 dollars on it and was planning on keeping it when she got it paid off, to go back and forth to work. She had gotten it brand new, a Toyota/ Corolla when she graduated high school a few years ago.
We are getting a lot of rain. I didn’t sleep much last night because it was coming down so hard. This morning our rain gauge was overflowing at 8 inches! We have rains in our forecast for all week. If we get any high winds trees will be coming down. Although our place is saturated we have no standing water.
Hope and pray the weather clears up and restoration work can continue in places still without power.
Hope all of you are well and good.❤️Toogie

I understand, it’s like everything is extreme.

What a horrible experience for Lanie to go through. I am glad to hear that she is fine, a car is replaceable but life isnt.

Just read this and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!! Oh Toogie, I can't imagine the feelings you must have had listening to her story. Lanie is wise beyond her years and please tell her I said so. I hope her insurance will cover most of the cost to replace her car. She sounds like a person who will overcome the lose of her car and go on to do wonderful things in her life. Hope the rain clears up and the sun comes out!! Bunches of hugs to you! Laura

I saw a brief glimpse of the sunshine this morning earlier. Not raining right now but overcast.

SCARY!!!! A huge hug and kudos to Lanie for saving her own life. I am so very sorry her car is totaled, but it can be replaced. Her life could not be replaced. And what a testimony to you and her parents for all of you raising smart kids.

I can feel your pain with all of the rain. We have been getting a lot too. A farmer friend of ours was telling my hubby that our grass is turning yellow because of lack of sunlight. Interesting! Please be careful and stay safe.

That is an amazing story Toogie and so glad that Lanie is o.k. It's amazing how quick flood waters happen and I'm so pleased she got out of the car when she did. We had a person drown here in flood waters as the electrics of the windows locked up and he couldn't get out against the pressure of the water. I do hope your flood waters go down soon. Much love to you all. Love Chris

That road is a much used highway but so much rain at once caused spots of flooding. I’m sure it has gone down there now and road opened back up.❤️

What a terrifying experience for her! She sounds like a very level headed girl. Shame on the state trooper who just looked and drove away.

So proud of her that she stayed level-headed and saved her own life, forget about the car. That's what insurance is for. She did all the right things, and I'm a bit ashamed of that officer turning away from her instead of coming to talk her through what had just happened. Give her a big hug and congratulations from me for being one smart cookie.
