Hello Cuties, I just finished my QOV for a Navy veteran. I’m not sure I’m happy with it but I hope the vet that gets it is. I was just going to make it with blue/gold and white but hubby wanted me to put ‘something’ red in it because it seemed like it needed a pick me up. I told him the only red in the panel was in the shield circles in the 4 corners. I had this flag fabric so I framed the panel and outer border with it. It came out bigger than I intended at 68x86. I usually try to make 60x 80 or 62x82. I found a scrap in our QOV scrap box and fussy cut the center Star square that had the emblem. Glad to find this that matched.

I’m going to have my bath and reward myself with a movie in bed. I have been watching a British drama ‘Call the Midwife’ but I think I’ve finished them all. I really enjoyed these shows set in 1950-1960. Maybe I can find something else that’s good. Any ideas? What have y’all seen that’s decent and worth watching?
Have a good night-❤️Toogie

I had a Husband a Brother and and a sister all in the navy, another brother and sister in the Army.

Thank you Jenne. I do want to say thank you to your family that served. I am sure most of us have had someone in service at one time or another, even if they didn't make it their career.

Toogie - that is great looking. You amaze me in doing things like this. And here I am struggling to try to finish a baby quilt that should have been done 4 months ago for one of the 3 great-grandbabies given us this year. I have torn it out at l3ast 3 times because I did not like the way it looked. LOL

Have you ever watched the McLeod's Daughters? It is an Australian film, and both my hubby and I really liked it. Hated to see it end. This is done with Star Wars themed material, as nursery is done in primary colors with Start Wars....Grandson and wife picked out the material.

I haven’t watched this show. I don’t watch much TV but once in a while I like to see something. What pattern or design is your baby quilt and what seems to be giving you trouble? Wish I could help you. Thanks for commenting and I’ll see if I can find that program.

Call the Midwife is on Netflix in the US. I watched the first episode and was TOTALLy drawn in.

toogie by toogie 06 Sep 2021

Yes I watch Netflix or Amazon Prime or you tube on smart TVs. Did away with Directv because it got too expensive.
I couldn’t find McLeods Daughters on Netflix but haven’t checked on Amazon Prime yet.

I don't remember where we found McLeod Daughters, but possibly on prime. I just googled it, and it is on Netflix
I am doing a radial quilt, and my issue of putting it together is to not have same colors or center design all in a row. I probably should have made the 36 squares that it called for. Hubby told me to just leave it alone, but that was not acceptable to me. This is done with star wars fabric as that is what grandson and wife picked out.

What a fantastic tribute to his service! It will be dearly treasured and become a family heirloom. Did you do an "info" square on the back so whoever inheirts this quilt will know what it represents?

We have special printed QOV labels that we fill info on such as the recipients , date presented, who pieced , quilter. It won’t be attached until completed and we know the presentation date. We also give a certificate in a folder all inserted in a pillowcase to match. Thanks for inquiring

Oh, Toogie, this is just wonderful! My oldest son is a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Reserves - so we have an affinity for the Navy around our house. Another wonderful creation - you have a great talent!! Hugs!

I hope he has a quilt! Thank him from me for all his years of service dedicated to our freedom. I love making quilt tops as you can see-lol

Thank you, Toogie - I will tell him. He will probably be deployed at the end of the year. They have a 5 year old son and a 1 1/2 year old daughter and he so doesn't want to leave them and his sweet wife again - but looks like it will happen.

You are amazing! Your talent with texture and color, makes all your quilt look fabulous. I am also impressed that you found this fabric. Was the center made special?

The center is a panel. Google patriotic panels and see what comes up. Thank you Christine

Wow! Toogie, this is outstanding. I love the addition of the red in the border pieces and central section. I am always amazed at how prolific you are at getting these sewn up. Someone will be thrilled with this one. Love Chris

Thanks Chris it may be a while before it’s quilted. The quilter I use isn’t quilting right now. She likes outdoors when weather is good so it will be cooler weather before she goes upstairs to quilt. We aren’t meeting anyway bc of Covid🙄😩

Hi Judy, I've seen all of these, great shows. I especially love Murdoch Mysteries and Darling buds of May, where we first laid eyes on Catherine Zeta Jones! Love Chris

It’s growing on me. I think it’s so much darkness that bothers me although the panel is nice. Maybe it’s too modern for me-lol

Oh Toogie I think Your Hubby is so right the flag material looks just perfect. He is becoming as creative as you are..
This quilt is so nice does it really matter that it is a bit larger? I would say better bigger than smaller.
This will be cherished that's for sure.

I like bigger too but it’s the quilter that has to deal with the size. I like big enough quilts that could actually be a bed size. Thanks, I do appreciate his help bc I detest cutting out. It makes me hurt. My wrist, my back etc…
