My husband and I met in school in six grade. In seventh grade I went on crutches and our teachers let us out of class early to go through the hallways so that we would not be with a mob of kids. My future husband kept pestering me that he wanted to leave class early with me so he would carry my books I kept telling him no I already have someone. But he kept on even said he would carry me down the stairs and to my next class that didn’t happen instead what did I do I hit him over the head with my crutches. I was hoping that in doing this he would quit pestering me and leave me alone. So after this we became good friends then at high school he started driving and he said he would take me home and I wouldn’t have to ride the school bus so I said of course and then four years later we were married but our very first date he decided to take me out and teach me how to drive a stick vehicle he had just replaced several parts on the car to make a long story short after he tried to teach me how to drive a stick shift he had to replace those parts again and to this day I say The only reason he married me was to get his money back for those car parts. Lol this September we will be married 48 years we have had two children one girl one boy both born in December one on the sixth and the 16th three years apart and between the two of them they have given us seven grand children four boys and three girls.

I'm so glad you chimed in! I just wish it was with the rest of the memoirs!

So your DH likes his 'friends' to hit him-lol-because you said after that you became good friends.-lol- I remember trying to learn a clutch and hated to have to stop on a hill and take off again. My husband made all our children learn the stick/standard shift before they could get their license. He told them you never know if you're in a emergency, you may have to drive someone that didn't have an automatic transmission. Your husband sounds like someone who knows what he wants. He wanted you from a very early age. Glad it's working out for him :)

I loved your story! I bet you are very glad your hubby was so persistent. Hopefully you never hit him over the head with your crutches again. hehe

And it's OK that this ended up here rather than in Toogie's post. It's a great stoy.

Loved your story. I seem to recall pre-wedding jitters getting all tangled up with learning to drive a stick shift jitters myself. And I learned how to hold a stick on a steep hill at a red light the hard way, with a cement truck dripping cement out the spout in front of me!
