Hi Cuties, well, what an adventure we've been on. You won't believe it - we are stuck here in Queenstown!

I'm not sure if many of you know but there has been a Covid outbreak in Sydney and our premier has shut down the Australian/New Zealand travel bubble!!! So that means no air travel between the two countries.

We supposedly had a flight out of Queenstown this afternoon at 3.30, but when we go to the airport at 1.00 there was absolute chaos! No one there could help us, so we decided to come back into Queenstown and stay at another hotel. We were really peeved as we had received no email to let us know that the flight had been cancelled. Of course we then had to cancel our hire car that we had booked to go get Mum and her dog Miss Lily at my sister's holiday home in Holbrook via Goulburn where tonight we were going to stay at a motel. So we had to cancel that too!
My poor sister Jewls - her partner Charles is in the Tumby Bay hospital in respite whilst Jewls is looking after Mum. Apparently he has had some kidney troubles and will have to stay another week. She was originally going to be getting him this coming Saturday. So she is going to bring Mum and Miss Lily back up to her home in Newcastle, either later this week or early next week.

Another hiccup is that we were all going to go out for dinner on Thursday night as it's Dana's 40th birthday. All restaurants, eating houses, etc. are closed. No more than 5 people in your home and Sydney is in complete lockdown till the 9th July - and it's school holidays in New South Wales!!!! There are a lot of unhappy people but we have to be diligent and if the virus is not stopped more deaths will occur.

So, we are happy in our new motel and will do more sightseeing for the next 3 days. It's a bit longer than we anticipated and of course more money, but you gotta learn to go with the flow! Love Chris

P.S. I said the the bus driver as we were leaving the airport to come back into town, I reckon it's a ploy to keep us all here to spend more money to keep the New Zealand economy going!! He he he!

1. Gorgeous Sequoia tree in city
2. View from the Gondola going up side of mountain
3. Trev and I at the top of the viewing deck
4. Raining outside our apartment at Pounamu
5. Trev and I at local pub (it was raining all day)
6. St. Moritz hotel on top of a hill near the city
7. I call it Bald mountain, as there is nothing on top but cloud.
8. Today there was snow on top of Bald Mountain!!

I've been following your adventures and prayed for your safe return home, however, how horrible can it be to be delayed whilst on vacation? Just kidding, I know you need to be getting home to get your mum and take back over for Jewels. Traveling safety and not too many side adventures. :)

You have no idea Jerrilyn, what a mess up it was trying to get back home. Very poorly organised in Melbourne airport! It was a schmozzle! But, we are finally home, got here yesterday morning arrived at Newcastle airport at 9.30am. Had a great night last night with all the family. Just about to put up a post of it. Love Chris

Hi Laura, we are finally home and it's wonderful to be back here. Julie is still stuck here as New South Wales has closed its borders. She is waiting for confirmation to be able to travel to South Australia, it's a nightmare! Love Chris

Beautiful pictures Chris. I know it’s a worry about getting home but the scenery is so pretty to enjoy, if you have to be stuck somewhere it's a beautiful place to be stuck. I just read below so maybe you are home again. Hope everything went well .

Hi Caroline, no we didn't, our flight was cancelled again. By Thursday arvo we got out and back to Aussie soil, but had to stay in Melbourne, Victoria as they weren't in lock-down. We flew out yesterday morning from Melbourne to Newcastle and finally got off the plane at 930am! Love Chris

Glad you have a workable plan to get home to get home Chris, Queenstown is not a very cheap holiday location so it might have got a bit expensive. In the meantime enjoy the extra few days and whishing you a safe and uneventful trip home. Lynne C

Thanks Shirley, yes, my poor sis she's beside herself with worry. She is taking Mum home on Wednesday about an 7-8 hour drive for them. At least Mum will be back in her own home and hopefully I'll be there on Thursday morning to see her for a day or so before she drives back to Tumby Bay on Friday. At least Charles is being looked after in the Tumby Bay hospital, but it's not looking too good for him, I'll keep praying that his illnesses can be kept under control and that he doesn't experience too much pain. Thanks for caring too, Love Chris

So sorry you are going through another lockdown. Our President is speaking tonight as our numbers have skyrocketed in the last few days.
We are also expecting some sort of lockdown.
Take care of yourselves and stay safe.

Hi Sarah, yes, this new strain seems to be more virulent than the previous ones. We are keeping safe and signing in everywhere we go with the app associated with NZ, At home we use the NSW one, we are wearing masks on public transport too, I hope your country can recover from this latest outbreak as well. Love Chris

I just read about Sydney and worried about how it would affect you and Trev. I'm so sorry your vacation has been extended and who knows for how long it will be. I hope you will be able to fly home soon, but in the meantime enjoy the sights and keep showing us pictures. I do enjoy them.

Thanks Karen, it certainly has been fun. We've just been out for a walk in 0C degrees. It was snowing this morning and it was beautiful. The mountain across from our room was covered in snow overnight. We have booked flights to Melbourne on Wednesday then onto Newcastle - it's a roundabout way of getting home, but it's the closest option for us. Sydney is in complete lock down for the time being. Luckily for us Newcastle is about 160km (a 2 hour drive North from Sydney) and there are no Covid positive people there. Love Chris

Sounds like you are still able to see some sites and enjoy your beautiful holiday. Our state is mask free and now I hear of new Covid variants adding up. I am still staying home most days and will continue pray for better days. Stay safe!

Yes, Suzanna, this virus seems to be mutating at a very fast pace. Thankfully Queenstown is clear from Covid, as is our town of Newcastle in Australia, but we have to fly into Sydney airport from Queenstown as there is no direct flight from Queenstown to Newcastle. The airport is not big enough for international planes. One day we hope it will be made bigger to accept international travellers. Love Chris

Enjoy your extended stay. Sounds like the UK has been. School holidays are about to happen in England and Wales. Scotland is ahead I think with holidays so we’re about to be inundated with holiday makers. I am staying in more on Market days as there too busy. Your sister seems to be the one who is having the problem of returning your
Mum safely. I have a friend who’s son is waiting for a date to return to Australia. He came for Christmas 2019 and is still here.
Hope all goes well for you and the rest of your family.

Hi Caroline, yes, I agree with you. Jewls will have to come back to our place in Newcastle - an 8 hour drive and then after a couple of days rest drive for 2 days to get back home to Tumby Bay. She has special dispensation because of Charles - she is his full time carer. Thank God for her wonderful doctor who is looking after Charles.
I'm so sorry to read about your friend's son - this virus is just dreadful. Love Chris
