Hi Toogie, If you look at www.leilagardunia.com she has a wonderful & free tutorial on how to make these "Granny Squares".. She calls them Jumbo Granny Squares. They finish at about 13 inches but the best part is you do 4 at a time! I did my first 4 from start to finish in less than an afternoon. Ruth
Thank you! I do want to make another one and will have strips for it so it should go much quicker. However, these had to be pieced one by one, because I was using scraps. A lady on another site sent them to me. If I stick with piecing I get about 6 done a day but that really is most of the day. Most afternoons I get about 4 done because I'm not getting after it like I was. :( I have 56 blocks made.
Toogie, I love your blocks, I'll have to do that with the fabrics I'm not in love with anymore!
Beautiful sunsets.
Thank you for looking & commenting. I wanted to make this pattern with other fabrics but I don’t know now. This is so time consuming and a lot of cutting, which is usually my least favorite part. Of course I think I’ve cut too many squares because it looks like I’m going to have leftovers. May can make shams in case someone uses this for the top of bed. We will see. I don’t have my backing to quilt it when I am through so will have to decide on that.
Your hubby did a fantastic job of cutting so that everything linear lines up perfectly! Give that guy a kiss!!! You did a fantastic job getting those squares all stitched together with such precision. A 1/4" seam allowance is something I have yet to achieve, but you have mastered that skill perfectly! I look forward to seeing the finished quilt.
Thank you, do you have a 1/4 inch foot, piecing foot? It makes it easier to keep lined up. You really could use your regular foot, as long as you are consistent, everything should line up. I'll tell him he is the reason though and he just got a kiss. You mean I gotta give him another one?-lol lol
Put the day to rest with a beautiful sunset.
Beautiful quilt blocks. Stay safe my friend!
Beautiful Blocks. You have got a lot of patience. Will be beautiful when finished. Love the sunsets. Hugs
I love the sunsets too and always loved the sunrise. Now that I am retired I don't see too many sunrises-lol-Thanks!
Is that snow on the ground! Wow, I thought you lived in the south. I got a little rain yesterday instead of the 2 inches of snow promised. We really needed it. I am hoping we do not have drought conditions this summer. You blocks are great. Making strips from jelly rolls would look like this. I am looking for a machine now and then find my 9 squares and finish the top a least. I would need to have someone do the actual quilting for me, unless I do it on the embroidery machine.
Love your blocks!! We had a gorgeous sunset yesterday evening but I didn't get a chance to take a photo.
Thanks, the front of my house faces west so we get the most spectacular, ever color changing, sunsets. We also get the heat from the sun, in long summer days. Right now, when the sun shines, I love to just walk down my road and soak it up. I try to get hubby to get out and walk too. I worry about him during this isolation.
Love your beautiful sunset - it does look like water colors!! Your quilting is awesome!! Thanks for sharing, Hugs, Laura
Thanks Laura, sunset was one of God's never ending masterpieces, just beautiful. I could take a picture in the same spot everyday and the sky would be different. So blessed to be able to see the beauty of nature. How do you explain, to someone who can't see, the magnificent scenes.
Everything is beautiful. Your blocks and the amazing sunset. Thanks for sharing.
The colors must blend good together for you to say that-lol- but I do try. Hubby helped hold the ruler for cutting, so he would take the credit and say it was precise cutting-lol
OH look at Gods beautiful sunset or is it sunrise? wow did he do that just for us? love it.
Such a BEAUTIFUL sunset! Your land looks so flat too! We didn't have any ground level enough for a swingset. Where do you live??? I'm sorry I can't remember.... Beautiful quilt squares too.
It is flat here ,lol. Thanks about the blocks, I hope to get more done today. I sent you a pm.
Pretty squares, beautiful sky. What size are your squares? The green one looks like it could have been men's ties. 😃
The squares are 2 1/2 inch and it's 41 squares to a block, so it goes pretty slow. I think my blocks will be about 12 inch after I trim them square. I love the sky, too. Thanks
Love them did u do them strip Quilting?I have a lot of Elnor burns books on that and i did this one years ago her way .Hugsxx
No I cut the squares individually from scraps. They are not like the trip around the world block or a Bargello so they had to be pieced individually.
