Gosh, I'd be scared too, especially if they came into my yard!
In January 2019 one night I allmost forgot to bring out the trash bin, It was about 1 am and saw a marten closing on my doughter`s car. Picked up some snow, made a ball and hit him on the head (10 yards). 1:0 for me. It picked a neighbour`s BMW
Oh my! But you appear to be fairly well protected by the large hedge fence..is that what I see between you & neighbor? We entertained an Aussie couple a few yr's ago, and they talked abt how open our neighborhoods are here in US...said fences were abundant in their area- to primarily keep kangaroos away..as well as other creatures. I live inside city limits and deer come daily, drink from the bird bath, but at our flowers ( love hostas!) I can abide because the does bring their adorable fawns along. I do hate the occasional skunk or snake, but we also have 'possums', woodchuck, foxes, and I heard a pack of wolves howling late one night as they ran thru the field nearby. Don't think I could embrace baboons tho! LOL
I had a problem with deer eating my flowers until I accidentally planted some garlic in with them. Are deer related to vampires? It did keep them away from my flowers.
I love wildlife, but baboons in the backyard is just a little too up close and personal for my comfort level. We have raccoons, opossums, squirrels and a lovely assortment of birds. I'm told we have coyotes in the neighborhood, but I've never seen one. Occasionally there is a alligator in the bayou, but I've not seen one be aggressive. Then there are also snakes that I could personally do without. Anyway, stay safe and thanks for sharing!
Would probably be out there with a broom shaking it at them and that would get me in trouble for sure. Lol. I hate it when uninvited critters invade my space, but have nothing that large unless it's a stray cow or horse gotten out of it's fense. Stay safe Sarah.
I had no idea this would get so many posts. For us it is norm. They do not take much notice of women but they to not like men. If cornered they can be dangerous. They have enormous canine teeth.
We get more in the winter as they are hungry. I only grow herbs. Would love to have veg but wouldn’t last long. Their specialty is sweet potatoes. These baboons are protected, so we cannot hurt them. Not that I would but some residents get very angry.
I once saw on Animals Attack or some such show where one of these animals can kill a human with those teeth/bite. It is not normal for us in the US for sure.
On the other side of our town they have vervet monkeys. They are little, very pretty but a terrible nuisance. They get into houses and play havoc. Getting into fridges and stealing anything.
Really into fridges, I am surprised. I only thought things like that happened in Jumanji-lol
Thank you for enlightening us, or me at least, on the habits of these creatures. They may be cute, but when they destroy or take things, it is not cute anymore.
What about lions close to homes or any other dangerous animal? I guess I always associate lions, with Africa.
Oh my! I would be terrified to go out of my house for fear on one jumping on me. I am sure the neighbors can hear them up there, too. What about damage to the roof too. If there are some on the neighbors roof, can the neighbor see any on yours? I wouldn't let Keeno run free for sure they would get him. Is there any wildlife management you could call, to sedate them and take them back to the wilds?
The only thing I've seen lately here are foxes. They kill our neighbors ducks. Nothing as dangerous as these baboons. Oh Sarah.
Yikes! I just can't imagine the destruction they might cause - am I right? I would be terrified too! Does this happen very often? Thanks for sharing the picture. Hugs, Laura
Wow, I would be scared too! Not what I want to find in my neighborhood or on the roof of the house either....Your yard is gorgeous!
Oh my! Not quite the guests I want to entertain, I confess. But I love the picture. I had no idea baboons frequented neighborhoods.
Ooh! Sarah, they can be nasty critters. I do hope they don't become too bothersome for you. You have beautiful trees in your garden so no wonder they are visiting the area. Love Chris
I just worry about my pekingese. He would go for them and be ripped to shreds. They visit about once a week. Today they left my plants alone. The last visit they broke my bird feeder.
They are lovely to look at from a distance, but can't the makes be aggressive? Beautiful garden as well. Hugs. Nan
Yikes! The largest animal I had in my yard lately was a coyote. I'd be scared to death of a band of baboons - they can be nasty! Stay safe! Hugs*, Deb
I would be terrified too! Baboons are not for me! I wonder if they do damage to the roof tops.
What a picture Sarah. I can see why your terrified of baboons. All sounds exotic from me being in the UK but not in the back garden. The nearest to exotic was hearing the lions roaring (from the local zoo) when at our daughters home. What else comes into the garden that’s wild and large?
We used to get bucks in the garden but after our burglary last year we have put a high fence in. Does not deter the baboons 🤣
