Hi Cuties! This is a Double Square Star from Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Co. I added a scalloped border, my first try to make one. I know it's not perfect and not a deep scallop, but I didn't want it to look exactly like half a circle, nor just a wave. Also, I know this goes against all we have been taught or told, but I cut my binding the length of my backing yardage, not on a bias. Jenny told us to clip at our points and make it lie straight when sewing at points. She can explain it better than me. Anyway, I had already cut my binding when my friend Martha suggested the scallop edge. I told her I didn't have any material left to cut a bias binding, when she reminded us about our class with Jenny using straight edge binding. I do have three pleats or pinches on back, when I quilted that I do I need to fix, but I'm close to finish!-lol-About time too, since I made this top last year. I hope all of you and your family are well. Have a nice day-Toogie

Toogie, I'm a quiltmaker and I also do longarming. I love Missouri Star and you chose one of my favorite. The colors are perfect, and your scallops really set off the beauty of your quilt. I hope you send a picture to Missouri Star, because Jenny would love it. They always love to show what their customers are doing.

Thanks for all your encouragement and support. I have posted some of my quilts on their Quilts by Me forum
Or whatever you call it. If you go to their tutorials then Show and Tell, I believe is how you get to it. I still haven’t figured out how to comment on others quilts I like, but I do know how to give them a ‘like’.

The scalloped edge sets off the entire quilt. I love all the bright colors you use, it is very lovely. I have not graduated from squares and rectangles have not yet considered stars and scallops. I recently saw on a Jordan Fabric YouTube Video, make the binding on the bias if entering the quilt for competition.

Oh I won’t be entering anything, these are for family. The stars I’ve made are not Y seams, just straight line sewing like you’re doing. Give them a try, I know you can do it. Thanks for looking

Oh, toogie, this is fabulous! I have been quilting for 40 years and just last year I finally got up enough courage to try a scalloped edge. You did a great job! Bravo! Hugs*, Deb

Well now I don't feel quite as bad for taking a year to get up the courage to tackle this. I am ready to do another now but on a smaller quilt-lol-I would love to see some of your quilts. Thanks for looking.

Thank you Marian. A lot of other Cuties can do just as well, but sadly, don't seem to show theirs. I love seeing, showing and sharing.

Bielie, except for 2 colors, the blue like the border and the burgundy, the rest were all in charm pack called Roses on the Vine by Marti Michell. Mind you, to me they look scrappy and don't look like they go together too well. They have tiny rose buds on the lt pink, lt green and navy. The bigger roses are few ....Thanks for liking it and commenting.

I am sure you are talented too, thank you. I think mine is passed on from generations. My grandmother almost always had a quilt going. My mother made clothing for us 3 girls, so the love of sewing must come naturally, to me anyway. My oldest sister CAN sew but doesn't have the passion like me. My middle sister wouldn't know what to do with a pair of scissors and fabric.

WOW! Toogie this is just beautiful. I see you are getting good use out of your long arm. The stippling design is wonderful and you've done an awesome job putting the scalloped edge on. Your family are very lucky to have such a great seamstress. Love Chris

Thank you Chris. Yes, my secondhand sit down long arm has about paid for itself. As for as the stippling, I love to do it. It is hard getting started on a quilt this size or a king, because you start in the center and that baby is heavy to move! I had to take breaks starting off because my wrist and shoulder start bothering me. Once I get the center quilted, it's pretty much smooth sailing.

This is a stunning quilt. I have only stitched two quilts ever and have so much to learn. I just love this - it so shows what wonderful talent you have. Your family is so lucky to have you - in so many ways!! Stay safe!

What a nice thing for you to say Laura. I bought these charm square packs when I was at Missouri Star. I bought ten, I think, not knowing how many it would take because I didn’t have a pattern in mind. I used some blue yardage like the border In the blocks. The burgundy was also from my stash. I have 4 charm packs left. I may make some Square throw pillows like the blocks, not sure. The charms were called Roses on the Vine. I was disappointed because sure didn’t have many rose prints in the pack.

Sure, if you’re not striving for perfection, I can teach you 😉😂 I’m just glad to get it finished. When I fix the pinches you could use either side.

I'm not sure who will get this one. My girls 'don't care for this one' so maybe some of the grandkids will want it. If I can get some more of the blue I plan on making shams with the scallop edge too. It's a fabric of Joanns so they probably keep it. I just haven't got out, but I know it's online. Thanks for looking.

I was afraid I was boring everyone with the quilts, so glad to hear you like quilting. I will have to click on your name and see if you have some posted. I'd love to see. Thanks for looking.

Ha! I just realized that I have not taken any photos of the quilts I have made...and I've made 50+ of them! What a silly gal I turned out to be. Will take a couple and post. Have lots of jackets photos probably because I sell them and did it for inventory. I'd I think a lot of people that are in needle arts do more than one type of sewing.
