With your love and care I know Sammi will still have all 9 of her lives plus more with no major problems.
I have complete faith in you Vicki and I know Sammi will be fine. He looks just like my Bonnie did. We had her for 12 years back when we lived in Valentine. So glad to read that your vet can come to you, makes it less stressful on the cat. Love and blessings, Chris
My heart goes out to Sammy, but I know you will do whatever it takes to keep him in good health. I'm sorry for the added burden for you, as I have seen how much care you give to all your babies. Funny thing, I have a Sam too and he is all white. Unfortunately he has an immune deficiency, but so far he's been very healthy.
Best of luck with your Sam keeping him healthy......we are doing our best with this one!
Relax Vikki.... this is the first step It is easy to give he shots to Sammi.... It hurts you more than the cat. They hardly feel the shots and they so not mind it at all.
You have to get food for a diabetic cat. No snacks... You will have to feed him in a different spot than the other cats... If you leave food out you will have to pick it up after the other cats are through. Everyone unfortunately goes on a diet ... He will do fine... Just give him hugs and kisses when you are done to reward him. This will all become a routine...AND it will become routine for you too.
BTW love the tongue sticking out. hehe...Beautiful boy...
You are going o do fine. I have faith in you. Suzanne
AAWW....thanks Suzanne! I got 2 shots under my belt now... had no problem at all...well, I do have a bit of trouble seeing the bubble in the syringe, but so far I have caught them..... Andi has ordered the food so we will be good to go..... this girl is our biggest blessing...we love her dearly....Sammi has to have a test in 2 weeks where they draw his blood every 2 hours after the insulin to see where his curve is and instead of making him go to the vet and spend the day there, she is coming here to do it and then she will report to the vet what the findings are and adjust meds if need be.....amazing young lady.......
Our cat , Slippers, developed diabetes shortly after my hubby was transferred to South Korea for a year. This was 18 years ago so I'm sure some things have changed since then. I'm sure the food is much better now for starters. I actually found the shots were easy to give to him. And I HATE needles, whether seeing them, getting them or giving a shot. But Slippers and I did very well. I found it was really very easy on us both. He didn't mind getting the shot at all. I was taught to give it in the back of his neck where there are few nerves. So I was told. It was much easier on us than trying to give him oral medication.
Please don't be nervous. I think you will find that Sammi will do very well and certainly feel much better too. Slippers was 14 when diagnosed. Our lives were more complicated because Slippers and his mom very much his dad that entire year. But Slippers and Rob had a joyous reunion when Rob came home. Hugs to you and cuddles for Sammi.
Needed so badly to hear this! I don't know anyone with a diabetic cat, and I need to be able to give him shots when Jim does his traveling to AR.....Andi is coming over at 7 PM to show us how as we felt a 7 AM to 7 PM was a schedule that would be easier to follow....
Sorry I cannot help but know given time you will get all that has to be sorted done. My sister in law had a diabetic cat and it lived for years.
