Many years ago after my mother died I inherited her bits of jewelry. Amongst the pieces was a large cameo brooch. I never wore it and it was “put” away. Years later my daughter asked if she could have it. I was delighted but could not find it. It was nowhere.
Last August when we were away we had a burglary and much of my mothers jewelry was stolen. They must have been disturbed as they left a blanket on the floor with various articles wrapped in the blanket, I imagine waiting to be taken. Inside the blanket was the missing cameo.
Where they found it I will never know. My daughter was quite surprised when I gave her the brooch as part of he Christmas present.
At least they didn't get everything & your daughter got something she wanted.Did the police find the burglars?Imagine what you might find if you ever move house.
I had to laugh when I read this since ironically 6 mos ago I had to take my husband to a new doctor and since our cars don't have GPS, I keep a portable in our hall closet. Found the Drs. ofc and afterwards we stopped at a fast food restaurant for a quick lunch. Dined in the car since my husband wasn't able to walk and afterwards took our trash to their waste bins outside the restaurant. Got home and couldn't find my glasses! Literally searched the car from front to back, between the seats, console, underneath the seats-NOTHING! All I could think of was I must have accidentally thrown my glasses in with the trash receptacle and my favorite glasses were gone forever. Yesterday we had to go to an event and told my husband we better take the GPS since I didn't have a clue how to get to it. Went to the closet to retrieve the GPS and couldn't believe what I found-my glasses were tangled up in the GPS cord. If I could have done cartwheels, I would have. What a thrill to have found them-made my day!!!!
Things have a way of turning up ,unexpectedly in strange places. My husband is always losing things. It has go to the stage where I refuse to go join in on his wild goose chases unless the missing item is VERY important.
I seem to do that too. The remote to my DVD player went missing just after the cleaning lady came. I can't imagine why she'd take it and it was silly to even think that and have to admit that I can't remember very well nowadays. Still haven't found it. So, I bought a new one online. I was have expecting the old one to show up when the new one arrived, but it is still missing. Some things have gone forever or for so long it seems forever!
When I taught 5th grade at school, a student came up to me after lunch and told me that she had lost a little gold ring that her grandfather had given her. She was in tears and said that she was on the grass on the large field. I didn't think she'd ever find it and didn't have the heart to say that to her, but I told her to get two of her friends and go back outside and look for it. There were windows in the room so I could keep an eye on her. They came running in and they had found that tiny ring in all that grass! I learned the lesson to never give up!
Just had a laugh remembering how my daughter lost one of her contact lenses at a party when she was about 11 yrs. She was absolutely hysterical when we collected her. While we were calming her down her older sister spotted something in the grass. It was the missing lens. We just couldn’t believe it.
When our youngest was Senior in high school she went to a fair. Her and boyfriend ate boiled crawfish on the taligate of his truck. She took her school ring off and laid on the tailgate while they ate, because she didn't want her ring to get 'messy'. Well, you know what happened. She forgot about the ring.
After tears and the fairground people packed up, her daddy borrowed a metal detector. She showed him about where they had parked, in the grass/dirt parking lot. After some time he did find the ring. I think she learned then to be more careful with jewelry. I'm glad he found it because those rings are not cheap and kids think they have to have them. She did not get one when she finished college-lol
Also, years ago a teacher at school lost her largest diamond out of her wedding ring. She told my husband about it and can you believe he found it! She had it reset and was grateful, claiming it wasn't such a large diamond and she was so surprised he found it.
Toogie, I wear my mother’s engagement ring on one hand and my grandmothers engagement ring on the other. I never take them off, even when I am gardening. Diamonds are pretty tough 😁
Well i lost my bottom false teeth last year and still can't find them .Had new ones ,made lol
Are they wedged down between the lounge cushions ?.We bought a new phone
I have really enjoyed this posting. A few years ago I lost a ear ring while playing outside with the grandsons. The son in laws father brought his metal detector up and went over the garden with it and found the ear ring. On Monday I finally got the ear ring mended and wore them on Tuesday AND lost one of them... This morning I found the 'lost' ear ring and have spent the past two hours hunting for the other one. Now they are back to being a pair and I need to look after them and wear stoppers on to stop them coming off.
I have a old pair of glasses that I wear to distinguish the weeds from the plants. They fell out of my pocket ,months later I found them ,then lost them again in the garden.Found them again & now they have decided that spending months lost in the garden isn't such a good idea.
A few years ago I lost the keys to my house. I had to hire a locksmith to get into my house on a Sunday, meaning an added charge for that and a new lock and key set. About 6 months later I found the keys wedged behind the back seat of my car. Currently I am missing the key fob for my car which would cost about $250 to replace, so I am being very vigilant with the second one because if I misplace that one I am SOL
Oh! Similar happened to my mom..you reminded me of a funny memory. She's been gone for 21 yr's and I had forgotten abt her lost keys. She was hurriedly packing to go home from vacation, couldn't find her car keys. After contact with dealer and delivery of new key, she found her original tucked inside her bra. We teased her for years.
I dread the thought of losing our car keys besides the inconvenience the cost of replacing them is exorbitant.
Years ago we bought car key rings at the market ( Mercedes & another expensive car make to put our Madza keys on )The keys were stolen from the super market conveyor belt ,husband had to walk home to get the other set.We think the men before us saw the logo ,stole them thinking they belonged to a expensive car ,but the only identifying thing on the ring was a club membership badge .Someone found them & handed them into the club a few days later.Glad our address wasn't on them ,we might have been burgled.
A 'charming' young pupil stole my car keys years ago but had binned them before he admitted his crime. He or rather his parent paid for a new set and the young man in question realised car keys are expensive as it came out of his pocket money.
I know I already commented, however last week I was thinking about a piece I had hand embroidered, had not seen it in quite a while and sure enough today, found it in a totally unexpected place. Lol I had to laugh as I thought of this post.
Yes I found my hidden External Hard drive after 11 years. I had given up on it. Normally when I hide something when going on holidays I put them in the folds of the spare blankets in the top shelf of the wardrobe. When I returned from holiday no External Hard drive there. We moved house 3 years ago and just took the drawers from cupboards etc to save packing them and 1 year ago I was sorting clothes and found the missing External Drive hidden inside a summer top. Apparently I dd not need that top as I had not worn it since we moved.
Thanks for a fun post. Just yesterday while looking for a shamrock pin, I found a square dance badge that I thought was long gone. I keep my badges in my shoe bag, but for some reason, I put that one in my jewelry box. Guess I don't wear jewelry often enough.
Judging from other comments, I guess it happens a lot.
A zillion years ago, I told my husband where I was putting a little bag which held some pieces of jewelry that I didn't want to take on vacation. I was afraid I would forget - so, I told him where I was putting it. Came back from vacation and NEITHER of us could remember where I put it. The following year, we found it with our zip tax notebook. I hid it too well!! Hugs to you! Laura
We once had a guy, on our bus trips, who lost his cell phone. He thought he had left it in one of the hotels. Called, staff searched his room, and no phone. Almost a year later, when the winter season came around again, he decided to wear his leather jacket. Lo and behold, there in an inside pocket was his missing cell phone!
Have found money in husbands winter jackets pockets years later.Winter here is usually mild so some winter clothes are not worn often.
Reminded me that several yr's ago I went to my fridge for hot dogs (wieners) for lunch. Knew the pkg was half full. Couple of days later I found them in the towel drawer. Now that's bad! Soon enough the smell would have told me. lol
Ooo, I've almost done something similar. Glad you found them before they made themselves known.
Ooooo, I once put a hot teapot in the fridge, thinking it was the milk jug.
I also have a few missing items. I put them in a safe place like so many others(now I do not feel so alone). I also have a few that I just set down for a minute and they disappears. I made some pieces last Christmas and lost them in a minute. I found them a couple weeks ago. They still need to be cut out, and hopefully will find their mates before the next holiday season comes around.
For some items I have started to write down in a note book where they are.Just hope the book stays put.
2 items missing :
1. I have placed my new upgraded cell phone in a safe place until I feel ready to use it & now cannot find it!
2. placed a VERY large amount of cash notes in a little zipped bag ALSO in a safe place and now for the life of me just cannot remember where or find it no matter where I look in all the usual safe places!!!!!!
H.E.L.P.!! I am losing my mind!!!! :-(
1-Do you have a neighbor or friend over that can call your phone before the battery dies?
2-Look in a tablecloth!-I say that only because my dear MIL had folded up a tablecloth with $300. inside.
Hope you find them both.
Hope you find both items. We couldn't ring the phone because it needed to recharged with a voucher
Tried calling the phone but it goes to voice mail! It was the upgrade of my current phone - so still using this old one!!
Money STILL not found after a year! THAT makes me SO mad with myself - checked EVERYWHERE!!
I bought a lovely quilt pattern book at the Quilt show pre 2011, I haven't been able to find it since but have the 3 applique patterns I bought the same day. Maybe one day it will stop hiding.
I know how you feel, I had copies of a hand embroidery pattern which I wanted to attempt, but alas can not find them, I don't have a couch like yours to look for them, but maybe one day when I'm looking for something else. I might just find them. Hugs from Maureen
Something I lost turned up because I thought it had a different looking cover.
Just goes to show you never know where missingd things will turn up! Love Chris
