Hi Cuties, first let me say I'm not asking for you to diagnose my condition, I just wanted your feedback if you are experiencing or have experienced this.

This week while sewing I started seeing little black dots in my vision. I first thought it was something on my glasses. Then I thought it was in the air, like little gnats. It's none of the above, so I did a search on google.
Our eyeballs are normally filled with gel. However it seems, as we get older the gel turns to liquid and causes what they call floaters. Also, it says most ALL over 70 people experience this. Do you?
It says it takes the brain about a month to adjust to these dark spots so they aren't so distracting but it bothers the bgb's out of me!
One of my 80+ brother in laws told me he experiences this. Told me he even swatted at them, thinking it was gnats. I told him I did too, but we needn't tell our kids are they will have us committed!-lol

Yes Toogie and they are noticeable in the summertime when its brighter outside. Something that I have just got used too. Sudden loss of sight should be seen to immediately or any other strange things happening with vision

I'm trying to get used to it but have kept a headache for the last few days. Could be from this King quilt I'm trying to finish piecing, weather changes/sinus, eyes, who knows...

Toogie, yes, I have had them from time to time too. When I had my cataract surgery the eye doc told me if I started to get more or if they get big that he wanted me to come in........so far so good........

Hope they don't get any worse for either one of us.

I do all the time toogie. I was also concerned & ask my Ophthalmologist about them. She also said they are floaters & nothing to worry about, but they sure do bug me (sometimes).

I got a devil of one 16 months ago. It was so big I thought something was coming over my right should and I went into Ninja mode defense. My eye doctor said they go away in 7-8 months or your brain adjusts to them and you don't see them anymore. Neither one true for me, but I hope it is for you. It has gotten smaller and I don't notice it as much, but it's still there.

I took a self defense class shortly afterward. ;)

Good for you about the self defense, you may need that anyway but I hope not. Sorry to hear about your spot. Mine aren't too big but many of them.
Hope all is well with you.

Yes, Toogie, I have one. Looks like a tiny spider and was told I’m in early stages of macular degeneration. My daughter researched and yes, not uncommon in folks over 50. I noticed mine after I turned 60 and thought I wouldn’t get used to it but hardly notice it now after 5 years.. My 88 yr old momma has macular degeneration as well although I’ve never heard her mention floaters. She has to have shots administered through her pupil when she has bleeds behind the eye. Getting older stinks sometimes. Hope yours quit bothering you soon!!!

We had a lady at church had MD and now her son has it. It must run in families and I know when I told my eye doctor about my sister's MD he checked me for it. Sorry to hear about you and your mom. Glad you still have her though. My mother lived until 81 and my husbands mom until 96. She still raked her property until she was 90!

My floaters started when I was 53 after cataract surgery. Have had them for about 15 years. I also have narrow angle glaucoma along with standard glaucoma. I had holes drilled with a laser in both my eyes to allow the fluid to drain out. Floaters go by varying degrees. Sometimes multiples, sometimes large, sometimes small. At first I thought they were black flies and swatted and tried to duck away from them. Caused everyone to laugh and think I had lost my mind. Now I am kind of used to them. They are very much annoying but I still have my eyesight so cannot complain. Just thankful for technology that saved my vision. Good luck and hope they dissipate soon. Hug and Blessings, Barba

Oh your eye procedures sound painful, but I too am glad, for you to still have vision. The cataract surgery that my sister has had, has improved her vision some (she has Macular degeneration). She needs her other eye done now tho. I had cataract surgery in both eyes some time ago.

My sister had (or has) them. It drove her nuts for awhile, too, but she got used to them. She hasn't mentioned them lately so maybe they are gone. Hope yours clear up soon.

I hope so too, thanks, because they are bothersome.

Floaters--and you don't have to be 70 to have them! Mine appear as lint and are most noticeable when looking at a bright, light-colored background (computer screen) and quickly looking around. But, yes, you do get used to them. Let your optometrist know about them on your next visit.

Yep!, One day daughter asked Mother what in the world are you doing? l said these pesky bugs are driving me crazy. I have found they are worse when I am very very tired They come and go and sometimes they stay away a week or two and then they show up again Been that way several years and eye Dr says floaters would go away. The jury is still out on that.

Hi Toogie, I've had some, but they disappear after a few days. But, I also have Glaucoma, so if it's really an issue I just ring my Optometrist and he checks me out straight away. They will go eventually. Love Chris

Looks like there is a lot of us that share this problem, my eye specialist isn't concerned about them they are apparently common.

That’s what I read. So many unexpected changes with aging...

The black spots are floaters.A few years ago I had them with flashes & I was sent immediately to the eye specialist. In my case it was probably caused by stress .Flashes could be a sign of something bad & should be checked out immediately. The floaters come & go, & you don't need to be over 70 to experience them.

toogie by toogie 09 Feb 2020

Thank goodness no flashes for me. I suppose you are right you can experience them before 70. Internet just said most all that have reached 70 have usually experienced floaters by that age.

Hay i am not 70 and neither is my dil and we both get them lol:):)

Had floaters for 23 years now and it's real old. But, no one's committed me. More in PM.

You only get committed if you’re swatting at them or things other people can’t see-😉😂

Sounds like Macular problem.
Go and get your eyes tested to be sure.
I had a problem with flashes of light in one eye and thought I had something in it. You need to have the eye checked as they told me the Retina can some times come detached.
Don't mean to scare you but eyes need looking after.

I know about it because my sister has macular degeneration. I went not too long ago and he tested me for that. Told him then every once in a while I’d see a spot or two but he didn’t seem concerned. Now there are more so it is distracting.
