Advice please, I made a light weight winter coat and pill box hat to match, I have a fur collar I can wear with it, but would like to put some on my hat also, only it is to long has anyone ever cut up an old fur collar that is fully lined? How hard was it? what did u do about the fur shedding?

this shows how to sew by hand

I made boots for our first born daughter , that is more than 40 years ago in fur of sheep. Very warm. But now you can find more things for your baby

Years ago I was given a fur stole to make toys out of when I undid the lining, I found it wasn't one or two skins but dozens of small pieces sewn together ,like crazy patchwork with the fur running in the same direction,so it looked like one skin.
You will need a leather needle to sew it together either by hand or by machine .Fur will only shed if you if you cut it,just cut carefully through the skin not the fur because if you do ,the cut line will be instantly noticeable.

And always cut it from the back side with gentle strokes.

Good luck, jenne!

Furs are featured occasionally at a local auction house I attend. They generally sell quite inexpensively. Most every time I wonder how I could repurpose it!

Think of fur fabric and give it a good hard shake outside to remove the small bits of fur. If it’s a long fur I would smooth the fur to each side of where I intended cutting to make it easier and less mess. Have fun and show us the results.
