I just read on a website that if the design isn't dense enough to use a thicker thread. I've never heard of this before, and I'm unaware of any embroidery thread that is "thick." Has anyone done this?

The usual embroidery thred is 40 wt, but several brands also have 30 wt (thicker) and/ or a 50wt in (thinner) their collection. I have embroidered with the 30 wt to get a better result when a design is not dense enough for the material I am embroidering, for instance on towels and I use the 50 wt for very small lettering.

Thanks for the info! It is reassuring to that this is a doable method. Do you just use the 30wt regular thread?or is there an embroidery thread that is 30wt?

Madeira has 30 wt Rayon embroidery - I have several colours and they stitch out well..
