UPDATE below-Hello Cuties, I wanted to show you what was just installed at my daughter's home for Avery. I must say, it's about time and you will think that too, especially when you see the size of her new bath chair. These appliances will make lifting and maneuvering Avery so much better, for her and us.

First, the bath chair. The green one was the only chair she had and it was approved when she was 3 years old! She is almost 14 !!!

Next the changing table (is lowered in photo) but installed to the bath wall and the track overhead with the LIFT ! The chair rolls into the walk in shower, after she is lifted off the changing table.

Photos 3 & 4-Avery's room with the track overhead with lift attached. The lift has to be transferred from bed to bath, or bath to bed, but it weighs less than Avery.

Aluminum door ramps were also installed, at the entry's to front and back doors.

When Ashley called for us to come over and see something, I thought it was to see Nora swim, as she just learned how. I was so caught off guard and so thankful too, I cried. I have been so in fear one of them would hurt their backs trying to handle Avery.

Anyway, I know this is not something beautiful to see, but it is something necessary and needed for her care and we are so grateful to finally get it for her. Any medical equipment is outrageously pricey.

Hoped you have had a great Sunday-Toogie

This first pic was Avery almost a year ago, at Christmastime, right before her 13th b-day. I always liked the second picture of her and her oldest brother, but it was about 3 years ago. I can't hardly believe it! I have more photos, but they are not as good as these.

Well, I read your post on Wednesday and I want to tell you, I too had tears in my eyes reading about the new equipment. I am so happy for the family! When she is laying and listening tell her to think of the thousands of Cuties who love her. Flowers, hugs, and prayers to you and your family, Suzanna

It is good to see they have had this equipment installed. Will be a great help when getting Avery showered and in and out of bed. Huge hugs for all.

WHAT A blessing this is! It will make life a lot better for both Avery and her family and caretakers. I always wondered about how much my back was being compromised. I tried to not ever twist or lift our son Ben, and he was somewhat able to get himself into the backseat of the car. Then after he passed away my body just fell apart, especially my back. You just don't realize how much toll it can be taking care of someone with special needs. I'm so relieved Avery and her family now have this! Do they have something no to help get her into the car? Hugs!

No, they don't Jan. They still have to lift her in and out of her chair. These medical aids may not seem like much, but when you need them, it means a lot....They are still saving for the van, so she can roll up in it. They did look at them to see what best fit the need of Avery, while still sitting all the family. Also, to check out the price. I'm afraid it may still be a while just getting a hefty down payment....do any of you know Oprah?-lol

Try your local service clubs for donations, Optimist, Lions, Sertoma, etc. Just a thought. And churches usually want to be part of a big project like this.

toogie by toogie 04 Sep 2019

Local service clubs? We are so rural all we have are 3 local grocers, 2 pharmacies, a bank, 2 dollar stores and a school. The nearest town is 20 miles and one with a fabric shop like JoAnns or Hobby Lobby is about 40 miles.

Sorry, I didn't realize anyone was as far back in the trees as me! It's a life we choose, right? The nature, the snakes, the skunks, the deer eating my daylilies down to nubs... Ah, the sparkling pond, the silhouettes of the trees as I drive home at sunset...

Wouldn't have it any other way!

Yes, it has been needed. I will try to post a photo of Avery and Mason I like, but it is not recent, and she has grown more since it was taken. She is a load to lift! (of course, I hope no one ever has to lift me!-lol)

I was with Avery the week-end. She was so drowsy. She is used to getting up early, but she hears EVERYTHING and the night before I'm sure she lies awake listening-lol-Some of the other kids were swimming, but she didn't care because she could hardly stay awake. We were all at my other daughters house.

That definitely will make life easier. I am so glad you have it now. It is sad how expensive medical equipment is.

It is shameful for sure. My husband has built things when he could to help her, only because it was so expensive if health insurance didn't pay.

What a amazing thing to have happen, this will make daily hygiene much easier and definitely safer or both Avery and Ashley.

I agree wholeheartedly! It takes some time getting her ready and even I can't imagine Sunday mornings at their house getting not only Avery, but the others ready, for early church.

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 02 Sep 2019

You have to start the night before, or get up very early, or it is impossible!

toogie by toogie edited 02 Sep 2019

lol- they have two services in the morning and stay for both as Ashley plays. So Sunday afternoon, everybody needs a nap! Nora can dress herself, but Gus is 3, so he still needs help getting dressed.

It truly is a blessing already. It's hard to hold someone in a wet shower all soaped up and I was scared she would slip away from Grayson's hold on her.

I'm sure it has. It took both of them to be in the shower with her. SIL to hold her while Ashley bathed her and washed her hair.

Thanks Laura, they still have to lift her in & out of her chair to travel. Hopefully they can one day get the van that is so needed too, so no more straining, and she can just push her chair inside. Hugs back to ya!
