I am so sorry I have been MIA for some time, only appearing for the birthdays. Does not mean that I do not have a read or look at what you have been up to in Projects. Have not had a particularly good year so far (will not bore you with that) and last week just when I thought things had to change I cracked a bone in my ring finger. Yesterday, having been talking about it for months I decided I had to get cracking on painting our bedroom. Unfortunately I can only paint in the mornings as it is too hot and sunny in the afternoons. Last month I took a leap of faith and painted all our very dark bedroom furniture. If I had known what a job it was going to be I do not think I would have done it. There were 7 pieces in all and I am delighted with the result.

My fellow South Africans will understand when I say we are not having a good time as a country. We are having three scheduled power cuts a day, something we are going to have to get used to.

Hugs to you all.

I have found the painting of the walls quite tiring I must say.
It was all my husband’s furniture and I have been wanting to paint it for years. He agreed to it so easily.

That's a beautiful color and you've done a fantastic job. Having painted my daughter's wicker bedroom furniture before, I know your struggle. I finally got a paint gun to finish hers.

Thank you Jerrilyn. It was quite a job. 2 coats of base colour, a darker grey to give it a bit of a distressed look and then 2 coats of lacquer - but I am very pleased with it. I did think about spray painting it but having never used a spray gun I decided against it.

Well done Sarah, I love your 'new' white furniture it looks so fresh and delicate. I love white furniture and have it throughout our home. I do pray that your finger heals and that all will return to normal soon. Power cuts are a real nuisance and I remember only too well when they were a common event in South Australia. Prayers always for you my friend and for your beautiful country. Love Chris

Thank you Chris for your very kind words. The paint is actually a pale grey, with a darker grey blended. The pink and white stripe wall paper I bought from UK many, many years ago. We were going to strip it off but it is still in fairly good condition. Getting wallpaper here is like chickens teeth.

Boy, if you could do solar it would help a lot. We have had solar for 10 years and it paid for itself in 3 1/2 years, We do not have the capability to run the house during a power lose but wish we could have put it in way back then.

When we were having scheduled power cuts some years ago we bought an inverter. This has been a blessing as it powers the television and a couple of lights. We have thought about solar power but we are thinking about scaling down to a smaller, one level house and it would not be worth the expense. Thank you for your post

My goodness, you are Wonder woman managing to do all of this painting with a broken finger. I think it is well worth all of the time it took. It looks great. I have friends following news in SA. I have been praying for so much of the world and SA has been on my list.

The furniture was painted before I cracked my finger. We are only doing walls at the moment. Thank you for thinking about us in SA. Hope you are well.

I am so sorry to read about your broken finger. I hope it will heal soon. Your furniture looks awesome. I bet the room became a lot brighter. How long do those power cuts last and does it affect all electricity?

Hopefully, your weather will start turning more reasonable and your power cuts will stop. Hope everything begins to change for the better soon! Hugs to you, Laura

Hi Sarah, hope your finger gets better soon. Let's hope the power cuts keep to schedule, so that we can get on with our sewing etc. and you have done a good job with your furniture. I've been trying to make myself some shorts and 3/4 pants, so do a little in between the power cut offs.
Hugs from Maureen

They are keeping to schedule with mostly coming back 20 mins or so earlier. I have not done any sewing since the power cuts started. As soon as I am finished the bedroom I need to make DH some more shirts. Have the material ready and waiting. Hope your sewing

I am sorry it has been a difficult year so far. Power cuts are never fun! But, when you have your plate full of other unpleasant things -- it just makes everything feel much more challenging.
Many of us have times when we just cannot participate fully here on Cute. I am very grateful you are here and that you are still able to wish Cuties a happy birthday.
Hang in there friend! Better days are yet to come.
Hugs!
