Hello Cuties, I know I haven't posted in a while but life has been 'happening', I'm sure you know what I mean.

We had a death in the family right after Christmas and during that time, I had more water problems. No leak outside, this time was in the house.
My 40 year old Maytag didn't stop filling at the rinse and flooded part of my house within 15 minutes. I had just repositioned my sheets, when the load got off balance. Went back to sewing room and 15 minutes later stepped out into the hall and saw the flood.
I called my oldest daughter, son and nephew to come with Wet Vacs. They immediately ran over and while they vacuumed, my dh and I swept water into dust pans and emptied into buckets. Then we mopped.
All the 'stuff' on the floor of my pantry, hall closet, utility room and living room got wet. I dried out things for 2 or 3 days.
Needless to say, we had to get a new washer. I am not keen on the new ones, but I won't have to wash with it nearly as long! -lol

Sorry to hear about your aunt ,she had a very long life.
I had the same experience with our previous washing machine which was still under warranty.I came down from my sewing room to hang out the washing ,only to be meet by water on the floor. At first I thought one of the dogs had done a wee,but the whole family room was covered ,as well as the laundry, toilet & it was spreading into the kitchen.Luckily it was summer but the water seeped under the walls into the garage & onto the pergola.Nothing was damaged but it took over 3 months before the computer part was sent to the repairer. The repairer ,the shop that we bought the machine from & the consumer affairs were all on their backs in the end. They reduced the warranty from 3yrs to 1 yrs after that. Will never buy any product from that company again.
Could of got a slow boat to Korea to get the part & sailed back again in less time ,than they took.

Glad you had no lasting effects from the flood. I wish it had been summer here to dry things up quicker. Boy, you may could have paddled that boat to Korea (we say 'slow boat to China')!

Oh! you poor dear. I'm so sorry about your hubby's Aunt too.
What great life that washing machine had 40 years! I've never had an electrical appliance that long.
I'm glad everyone got in and helped you Toogie with the mopping up and cleaning the floors etc. It's not a job I do, Trevor does it for me! I mustn't complain too much, but I'd do a better job, but he knows my hands don't cope with the repetitiveness of the backing and forwarding of the strokes etc. As others have said at least you've got nice clean floors for the New year. Love to you all, Chris

Hubby helps with the mopping too but we both have back issues. I keep wanting to get someone in and he keeps saying no.
Well the machine was used the first 27 years by my mom who only washed on FRIDAYS. -lol- so it's only been 13 years that I have had it. I know new appliances will not last nearly that long but I am hoping not to have to buy another....EVER-lol

Sorry Toogie, In past yrs I had a couple of floods. All carpets had to be pulled up and replaced but our home ins. Covered the cost. Mine was caused from pipes springing a leak.

I probably should have turned it into our insurance company but everything seems to be okay so far.

Someone told us at the funeral, that we carried her a lot of miles with us. I was thinking she went a lot of miles!
It was a mess. I had albums of pictures on the floor by a chair if one wanted to sit and look. I had pics scattered all over the house to dry. It didn't distort the photo but if you angle it back and forth you can see 'wave lines'. People say they don't notice so don't angle-lol

Sorry to hear of the loss of a family member.
Also sorry to hear of your water problems. I guess after 40 years of washing your machine decided enough was enough. One would think it could have just stopped working instead of flooding your rooms. lol At least now you know your floors are really clean. I too do not like learning new washing machines and irons. They are always not as good as the one you are replacing. Hugs

Amen Shirley, to not as good as old kind. Old kinds were meant to last, now we live in a disposable world. if something breaks you can't fix it so just throw away and buy again.

Sorry to hear that you lost a family member.

Oh dear. I hope you were able to safe the items that had gotten wet. Who needs this kind of happenings around the holidays, well any day. I hope you made peace with your new washer.

lol-it seems to take f-o-r-e-v-e-r for a load to wash.

Family member was dh's aunt. She was the oldest member of our church, being 97. She had her right mind. She could remember better than me and she had a more social life than most of us.
She had a friend of 73 years. Both of their husbands had died a good many years back. EVERYDAY, they went somewhere. Her friend had a driver to take them most places. If it was close to home our aunt drove.
They did water aerobics at least 3 times a week, visited people in nursing homes and hospitals and every Friday had their hair done. Everyone called them Thelma and Louise-lol
A few months back they had been to the Civic center here, for lunch and bingo. When they left, it was raining and Aunt lost control, hitting a telephone pole. It's a wonder they survived the accident.
Well, her friend was bleeding inside. During the surgery it was discovered she had 2 tumors that ruptured. She had cancer previously but seemed to be doing well, neither of them missing a church service or slowing down with their goings.
Well, the friend succumbed to her injuries. It upset Aunt naturally but she had broke wrist and other injuries were less severe. She healed from that and then developed pneumonia to which she never recovered. We were just hoping she would not die Christmas day. She passed the 29th.

Wow, Toogie.. What a wonderful testimony to a vibrant and long life and how wonderful these two friends had each other after being widowed.

Yes Shirley, all of the community she lived knew her, so she leaves an empty place.

Betsey, she had lots of stories to tell. Their last long trip that I knew of was several states away. Both women and friend's sister went. Mrs Penny hired a man driver and went in her car. (Mrs Penny was blessed to be able to afford anything she wanted, but always gave plenty to church and organizations.)I always wondered how Mike got on with 3 back seat drivers-lol
