Many of you have probably heard about the wildfires in California. I am lucky and am not near enough to be in fire danger and none of my immediate family are either. The Camp Fire has destroyed the city of Paradise. That fire is about a 3 hour drive north of me. The Woolsey Fire is in Southern California (south of me) and has destroyed a lot of Malibu and nearby areas. You can see pictures and read about them in the link.

My area has terrible air quality because the smoke came our way. Schools closed and nobody is supposed to be outside long without a mask. Unhealthy and inconvenient but nothing compared to what the people in Paradise are going through. My son in law’s parents are in a similar situation. Their home is sandwiched close between the Southern California fires and they were almost evacuated.

For those that know that one of my sons is a firefighter, he did not deploy to the wildfires. His station sent 7 people and he stayed to watch out for the home fires.

Good news: rain expected Wednesday!

I pray the rain will put out the fires and not come to mudslide proportions. You don't want to trade one evil for another....glad your son is watching the Homefront. Pray for the other firefighters and rescuers.

It is so sad. The fire that took Paradise was a fast mover. Satelite pictures showed the horrific story. I have not watched fires very much, however this one jumped so much. My heart goes out to all californians who have lost to fires in the last decades.

I am a bit closer to the Camp Fire that destroyed the city of Paradise. The air quality is getting better but was absolutely horrible. On the news it said that the local fire departments had many calls of smoke detectors going off in homes. It did not happen in my home, but puts it into perspective. I feel so sad and helpless for those poor people. Rain is in the forecast and is badly needed, but that also might bring mudslides in the burned area.

Wish I could send you some of our rain. I'm so tired of living in a swamp, but thankful things aren't worse. These fires are so much worse than the floods we had the last two years. We've been so fortunate. We are all praying that the fires end and that more of the missing will be found to be alive and safe. I heard a report yesterday on how toxic the smoke is. Please stay safe.

So tragic....I am about 40 minutes from the Woolsey fire area...we have had 60mph Santa Ana winds which are treacherous alone, but add fire and it's a nightmare...we were fortunate that the winds did not blow our way otherwise it might have been a different story....prayers for all and thanks to all first responders, many of which have left their own homes and families in peril to fight these fires.

So sad to read about all those people who have lost their lives, their homes and property. God bless the fire fighters who constantly put their lives at risk to save others. Prayers for a renewal of all surroundings and a quick response to re-building the township of Paradise. Love Chris

I can not imagine the stress the people must be living in. Indeed we al say als long as friends and our dear amimal friends are ok that this is the most important thing.. still losing everything you worked for whole your life.. and knowing that you hardly get any refund from assuances ( of which some in Belgium are obligated), some things are not even replaceable , for sure this is hard to deal with.
Prayers and lots of stenght to all of these people.

Hurrah for the home fires! It must be so stressful on the fire workers' families.

Yes indeed, it lust be a special ‘call’ for these people to put the rescue of people at first place with danger of their own lives. Bless them
