I learned something interesting today. I was surfing the net trying to learn about different machine needle brands, and one lady had posted about checking the eye for burrs inside it. She said if you don't have a magnifying glass, use a plastic bobbin and angle it to look through one of the sides and it functions as a "good enough" magnifier to see! How cool is that!

I'm not sure I'll remember it more than a day or so, but it was interesting to learn

I find odd things like that so interesting. My husband teases me and says its because I'm a little odd too!

never have I checked the eye! And would never have thought to use the bobbin to magnify it. Good hint, thankyou.

I hadn't checked either, until yesterday. My machine was shredding thread all afternoon, and I realized it was the needle. But not the eye, it happened to be the brand. When I first got my machine, the dealer said to use Organ needles. But I ended up using Klasse ones. Now I realized that my machine prefers the Schmetz brand.

That is very cool. I wonder if any of my thread shredding is due to burrs.

One of the ladies on the blog had purchased a bulk supply of 100 assorted sizes and every one of one size was flawed. I haven't run into very many flawed needles. But I did realize that for dense designs, my Brother machine prefers Schmetz. With a brand new Klasse titanium needle, it was shredding every time I turned around!

Prefers the Schmetz because they are every so slightly longer. My repair guy says Schmetz and nothing else for the Brother, But he also says NO Schmetz for the Janome machines.

Interesting info about machines and needles. Mine is a Husquvarna. Wonder what they like best?

Ask your Husquvarna salesman or repairman.

I know it isn't brilliant news, but it is interesting to me to see how other people discover things.
