Take some time and go through projects, most people have included the source of their designs/lettering. I don't think it's allowed to give sites I've found to be good, so that's your best bet on here.
I agree. Anyone with a lightweight digitizing program can auto-digitize letters and put them out there to try to sell. But there is a real skill and real art to pathing and digitizing the letters well so that they stitch out beautifully and are well supported beneath. Also, you may have noticed many sites closing. People tend to come to digitizing later in life and want to retire; poor digitizers get weeded out by not being worth the price; maintaining websites is costly, including the cost of giving away all those freebies we love; and new taxes and privacy protections will create additional pressures on site owners to charge more or quit. It's highly competitive.
Sometimes the quality of the design is really a lot better than others. Without knowing which designer you're talking about I couldn't be sure of the reason.
