You are not crazy ,china ware is used 3 times a day ,it will eventually show its age .When we built our new house 24yrs ago we got new crockery ,cutlery & saucepans because a lot of the pieces had been broken over the years & the cutlery wasn't much better (before dishwasher)
We got 12 pieces of everything except cups & saucers which we never used ,thinking some pieces would get broken & then it would be 8 pieces ,as well as matching bowls ,platters etc.Only one item has been broken. Its royal blue glass set.Dishwashers sure cut down on breakages.
Of course, you should have new china!! - lol, I just ordered a new set for us. I passed it by my DH a couple of months ago and of course, he will have forgotten it! I have to decide what I will get rid of to make room for the new!! Enjoy! Laura
You deserve new dinnerware, hardly qualifies as an extravagant expenditure. Actually you could probably find a great set at the thrift store! My mother-in-law had a new set sitting in her closet and used chipped up dishes forever. I asked her once why she didn't use her new ones, she said she didn't know where she'd put them. I said "Put your chipped ones in the closet and your new ones where those were!!" She laughed, that had not crossed her mind!
I purchase new dishes very 5-10 years. I just get tired of looking at the same old thing. Thankfully my darling husband's face has changed over the years, so I haven't grown tired of it yet.
You're so funny....I think all our faces have changed over the years! (and most unfortunately, our bodies-lol)
I have been looking for new dishes since our "China" wedding anniversary. In just over 2 weeks we will be celebrating our 26th and I still haven't found the "perfect" dinnerware. I did find one set I liked however, the dinner plates were too large for the dishwasher and I was not about to replace that, too! Good luck.
Just a thought. On most dishwashers you can raise the top basket. A tip I read on the Internet.
Years ago I wanted to get new china, so ask for it for Christmas. I got it. Next few times we ate, I went outside, stood at the trash can & smashed every plate, bowl, etc that was dirty saying "I hate to wash dishes." Felt good!! Thankfully the neighbors didn't see me! No dishwasher then. If the plates are crazed/chipped, the charity shop may not actually want them. Check first, then if not, smash away & your husband will REALLY thing you've lost your marbles! LOL
Our Charity shops here in S. Africa are not too fussy as we have millions of very poor people
Oh dear do I dare tell you I have 10 different sets of dishes. Next week my 2 girls and 2 granddaughters are going to check out which ones they want. I love the Old Country Rose and won't give it up yet
Good for you! You deserve the new dishes! I am using my Mikasa from back in the 60's. The cups are gone but that's ok. I did store them for many years but now I use for everyday. My son asked for them when I am gone. I hope you find something to your liking. Suzanna
Have decided to wait until Thursday as I am going in to our next big town . I just want plain white so it should not be too difficult
Not mad! You just want freshness. I have set aside my bridal china from 1974 in favor of a mixture of plates, mostly with houses and historical places on them. And I enjoy this new look very much.
What a lovely way to treat yourself.
I use plain white Corelle dinnerware, available in individual pieces from Coles or Woolworths Supermarkets. Since they are "supposedly" unbreakable I don't mind paying a little extra for each piece and I have gradually built up a complete dinner setting for 8. Sometimes they bring out new pieces, like their large pasta bowls, or their small desert bowls, so I will add these over a few grocery shops. I never seem to get tired of my plain white settings as the food is always the star.
I hope you find something you REALLY love. Hugs xxxx M
Trust me, they break - lost another one just last week - Corelle and tile floors are not a good match....
I think so too Sarah. I have some Corelle with colored borders but I use them when I slice up a tomato or something and keep the white to eat out of. Call me crazy but I 'enjoy' eating from the white plate.
You go girl! I don't think you have lost your marbles. I feel the same way you do. I do not like chipped dishes.
They are not exactly chipped. They are from Italy and were hand painted and glazed but over the years the paint has chipped. We only use them for every day but it is time for them to go.
great, go for it !!
hope you find something you like, and he will enjoy it too( the new china) when he sees it and sees how lucky you are with the new set.
Tell him it's not sanitary to use chipped pieces as that is where bacteria collects! I love my (fairly) new Corelle dishes and bowls. They are very light weight. Hugs. Nan
I am sick of my Corelle but for another reason. I had it for 20 years and no chips. Just tired of it.
