This is a set I did for my granddaughter's room. It's 7 framed realistic animal designs from the Baby Africa set by OESD at Embroidery Online. They turned out beautifully but it was a lot of work and took me over 8 months (I have a job too). There are over 45 different colors and matching was done by eye since conversion charts did not help me change the colors to Sulky thread colors well enough. The fabric is Kona cotton (preshrunk) with a woven fusible interfacing on the back. Tear away and the fabric were hooped. I also pin basted and used the rubbery shelf liner around the hoop edges for stability. I did not use a stitched basting square. The lion cub was done several times since the color layers were very hard to discern so I had to try it several times and used my software to help figure it out. I also had to split the large parade because my hoop wasn't' large enough. I split the giraffe off which caused more challenges because the color sorting included colors that were in the giraffe and some of the other animals. Again I used my software to rearrange the color sorting. I just delivered the finished designs today. I hope to get a picture of them on the wall when they are all hung up. Baby is 7 months old already. So the moral is: Start earlier.

These are so well embroidered, I don't know where to start. The fur, hair of the zebra and lion look like if you touched them they would be soft. If you had to compromise on color choice, you did very well, may be better than their choice. Each one is a work of art. Beautiful! (and we weren't timing you!) Congratulations on a baby girl and finishing her art.

Congratulations Sewmom, these are perfect, and doesn't it just go to show that using the proper stabilisers etc, make for this sort of embroidery stand out. You've done a fantastic job on them all. Well done, and I do hope you have sent these pictures to OESD I'm sure they would love to see your take on these animals. Love Chris

This is an awesome project! Thank you for all the details. Some people just don't understand that "just stitch it out" entails so much efflort to get it done. Your color choices are just perfect, and I'm glad you stuck with it to get them just right. Your results are well worth the work you put in to it!

Beautiful work and lots of it. I did several of the single animals from this set on a batik-looking shirt, so that they were sort of appearing out of camoflauge! It turned out fine, but was a risk to try! Baby elephant was my favorite. I hope she loves them and always thinks of you.
