A receptionist at a doctor's office went above and beyond for me this week, and I'd like to do something for her. I don't know her likes or dislikes, so I was thinking of a cheerful mug rug or something. Do any of you have any better ideas? Thanks in advance.

It is so rare to come across people like this in the medical field now days - Such a nice thing for you to want to do. Having worked in the medical field, I have to caution you that most doctors offices and hospitals have policies that state that employees are not allowed to accept gifts from patients and customers. It can get real sticky for her if she were to accept something from you even though it is with the best intentions. A card with a heartfelt note would be appropriate and greatly appreciated. In order for her to accept something from you she would need to share it with the entire staff in her area. So if you do a mug rug, she would have to put it in the break room and anyone could use it. One option is to make 3-4 mug rugs so that she could have one at her desk and the rest in the break room. The other option if possible would be to give her something outside of work. Unfortunately, this policy is in place to protect the staff form patients and customers that would claim they were being discriminated against because they weren't "bribing" the staff. Or employees are showing favoritism to certain patients.

Thank you. I didn't think it all the way through. A handwritten card might be the best.

I think a Mug Rug would be totally appropriate...perhaps you could put her name on it and an embroidery design related to the medical field...Nan's suggestion of a FSL Angel is also a nice thought...I am sure she will appreciate anything you do!

I keep fsl angels on hand for this type of thing. Sonia Showalter has some that are the loveliest out there and stitch up flawlessly. Hugs. Nan W

When people are this nice, anything will please them and an unexpected gift, even more so. Sweet of you to make her something.

Thank you. She is just the happiest person, and not in an insincere way.

A mug rug or anything she can use at work. I make pillowcases for those little small travel pillows for teachers for aching backs. Also, lots of older folk are glad to purchase these because they have small pillows for which it is difficult to find pillowcases. Key tag. Um... I'm out of ideas - my brain is almost done for the day@

From what you are saying I would say this nice person would love anything you did for her. I think a Mug Rug would be delightful.
